2013 – The June Playlists

Best in Red
The Village of Nyght
Saturday, June 29, 2013

We saw red tonight with the Village weekly party.  It was one of those nights where I was asked to host and DJ the whole party.  This is not a problem, since I tend to do that automatically, anyway.  I was thinking about different themes, and since I happened to be working on a red outfit at the time, it was only natural to say, “Hey, let’s do Red!”

Like black, most people have some bit of red in their inventories, particularly the demons and the dragons.  Since the following week will be entitled something like SLawrence of Arabia, in honor of T.E.Lawrence’s successful raid on Aqaba with his band of merry Arabs in Revolt (I couldn’t call them Revolting…you’d get the wrong idea!), we figured this would be pretty easy.

The week after is everything French for Bastille Day.  Hooray for French Coldwave music!

So.  This week:  Red.

Enough of that blather.  Tonight was all about b-sides, synthpop, rarities, and oddball stuff you wouldn’t ordinarily get to hear in Second Life.  I also paid tribute to Alan Myers of DEVO, who recently died of Brain Cancer.  He was their drummer from 1979 – 1985, and the guys referred to him as “The Human Metronome”.  Enjoy.

Best in Black
The Village of Nyght
Saturday,  June 22, 2013

On the Eve of the Supermoon, the Village actually did a best in black event.  Of course, wearing black in a gloomy dark graveyard kind of makes it difficult to spot you.  Be that as it may, it’s a quick and dirty event, since everyone on the Grid has black in their inventory.  Particularly if they hang out in a Lovecraftian horror sim the way we all do each weekend.

This was a fun set that ran the gamut of Gothic, to New Wave, to Electronic, to Pseudo Bollywood style Celtic Indian Folk music.  Oh yes, you read that right.

We had a nice crowd, and a lot of fun conversation.  I hang and do my thing, which is dig out fun music.  This includes inflicting some obscure bits and bobs from the vaults.  That said, enjoy the set list.

Back at the usual haunt this week…

Damia said on no uncertain terms that this week’s theme would be Insanity.  This suited me, since I spent the better part of two weeks ripping out my hair, beating my head against the desk, screaming at the wall, and having full blown mental breakdowns as I tried to learn Blender well enough to add some mesh to my store inventory.

It’s always great fun to play at the Village.  People there love a variety, and they also love hearing bizarre stuff – stuff I have in abundance.  I do try to accommodate requests, but sometimes I have a little difficulty fitting some things in.  Plus there are some things best left in the aether.  That said, here’s tonight’s fun and frolic.

A Rusted Development
LEA – Linden Endowment for the Arts
June 8, 2013

There’s nothing like booking back to back events, and there’s nobody more insane than I.  Okay, the insanity has nothing to do with back to back events, but it can’t help.  Rather than my usual DJ gig at the Village on Saturday night, I went with a Steampunk installation closing party in the afternoon, and then hosted a party at the Village with the intrepid DJ Diva Destruction at the musical helm that night.  She needed some DJ chops and her Village debut went okay…but I digress.  A Rusted Development was a steampunk installation built a couple of years ago.  It was supposed to be up for a month and got left on the grid for two years.  Yes, it was that amazing.

Maven of the Arts, Rowan, asked me to play the closing party, and that’s just what I did!  I always have fun DJing for her, and this was no exception.

Siouxsie & the Banshees – Shadowtime (Eclipse Mix)
Snog – Everything Is Under Control

The Church – Hounds of Love

Closing Party for How the Mighty Have Fallen
Graine’s Gallery
June 7, 2013

Chuck Matrix is a fantastic 3D artist, and he was showing some of his work at Graine’s Gallery for a short time.  The opening party featured my mad DJ skills, and Chuck was so happy that he requested I play his closing party.  It was a slow night in Second Life just in general, so the party was lightly attended.  However, I’ve always maintained that a party can have a handful of people engaging in conversation, and I’m perfectly happy.  This was a short set, only an hour.

Tubeway Army – Everyday I Die
Joy Division – Interzone
The Vapors – Spiders
Snog – Everything Is Under Control
TransX – Living on Video
Camouflage – The Great Commandment (Explode Remix)

Adult Party
The Village of Nyght
Saturday, June 1, 2013

The Village of Nyght is occasionally host to Adult themed parties.   Apart from the requisite nudity and inevitable private messaging slash cyber sex that goes on, there’s a tradition of playing Strip Hamlet.  If you have never been to one of the Adult parties, Hamlet is a random money/prize giver shaped like a skull, and wearing a funny hat.  The hat was my idea.  After all, he has no hair, and really needed the embellishment.

There’s only one rule to Strip Hamlet:  If he gives you money, you must remove an item of clothing.  This does not include shoes or jewelry.  Or alpha layers.  And probably not tails either, after this week.  As resident Deejay, I’m immune to this game.  Hamlet never gives me anything.  I will strip if asked, but nobody ever wants to see me naked.  Plus I live in fear of being a naked man in socks.  It’s not a good look.  No, really.

Besides, my job is to entertain the masses.  I was in the mood for some uplifting happy music.  So here’s the playlist from last night.  Enjoy.
