50th Anniversary of Doctor Who

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a play list.  It’s mostly due to lack of time, and accidentally deleting the history on SAM, and all the millions of other excuses a person can come up with.  There were a couple of parties between this one and the Tribute to Lou Reed, but you just have to trust me that music got played and there was much rejoicing throughout the land.

With that said, we move on to important matters at hand.  You would have to be living under a rock if you haven’t heard that yesterday was the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who.  Hi, I was living under that rock till Friday, when I was informed this week’s party theme was all about Gallifrey, Daleks, Timelords, and Companions.  Seriously.  I don’t watch the show.  I have seen a few episodes here and there, mostly when I was still in High School and up late on a Saturday night watching PBS.  They were big on Doctor Who at the time…at least until Red Dwarf came along to usurp its time slot.

So, my droogs and devotchkas, I was thus exposed to Tom Baker’s version of the show, complete with overly long scarf, floppy hat, and Jelly Babies.  Am I the only one who remembers him as the bad guy from the Seventh Voyage of Sinbad?  Have any of you heard this guy “sing”?  Are you ready for the play list from a stellar Doctor Who party?  Well here we go:

David Bowie – Hallo Spaceboy (Lost in Space Mix)

Dia De Los Muertos and Tribute to Lou Reed

Lou Reed died last Sunday Morning.  As I’m kind of a big fan, I thought it would be fun to do a tribute to the master musician at the Village of Nyght during our annual Dia De Los Muertos celebration.  Day of the Dead, plus dead guy, equals some pretty darn good tunes!  Quite a lot of folks showed up, both from Plurk and from various groups, and I was happy to see them all.  In fact, one avatar was only three days old, and she had never heard Lou Reed before.  Apparently she’s now a fan, so my work here is done.

The party lasted something like 3.5 hours.  Here’s the play list:

Dead Kennedys – Viva Las Vegas
Velvet Acid Christ – Fun With Drugs
Oingo Boingo – Dead Man’s Party (Party Mix)

The Velvet Underground – Black Angel’s Death Song
Apoptygma Berzerk – All Tomorrow’s Parties

Lou Reed – I Love You, Suzanne
Violent Femmes – Country Death Song
*** Request *** Delta Rae – Dance in the Graveyards
Simple Minds – All Tomorrow’s Parties
R.E.M. – Pale Blue Eyes
Lou Reed – September Song

At this point, the party was over, but I usually keep playing till the fat lady sings, or I drop dead from exhaustion…whichever comes first.  So onward and upward, and more Lou Reed!
