Playlist 2012 – Oct. 27 The Armada – Pirates

It isn’t often I end up doing two gigs on the same night, particularly when they’re late at night.  I generally turn into a pumpkin early.  But, I can’t resist the allure of a set including pirate music, new wave, and goofiness that only comes out of requests from a bunch of steampunk folks.

As always, the asterix denotes a request.  If you don’t know what an asterix is, or if you think I’m talking about a little comic book viking, then I can’t help you.   Anyway, on to the play list.

Voltaire – Beast of Pirate’s Bay
Echo & the Bunnymen – Seven Seas
The Beatles vs. Blondie (DJ Lobsterdust) – Glass Octopus
The Little Mermaid – Kiss The Girl (Remix)
Lazytown – You Are A Pirate
Tenpole Tudor – Swords of a Thousand Men
Adam and the Ants – Stand and Deliver (2008 Mix)
Spizzenergi – Where’s Captain Kirk
* Blondie – The Tide is High
Dalmatian Rex and the Eingentones – Octopus I Love You
Irish Rovers – Drunken Sailor
Sex Pistols (or if you’re steampunk, Fornication Sidearms) – Friggin’ in the Riggin’
The Pogues – Sea Shanty
Killing Joke – On All Hallow’s Eve
Abney Park – Airship Pirate
Shriekback – Nemesis
Richard O’Brien – Timewarp (Remix 1989 Extended)
Rosetta Stone – Leave Me For Dead
The Cult – (Here Comes The) Rain
The Cars – Moving in Stereo
* Crime & the City Solution – The Adversary
* Nightwish – Sleeping Sun
Queen – Don’t Stop Me Now
Monty Python – The Accountancy Shanty
Great Big Sea – Run Run Away
Toy Dolls – Worse Things Happen At Sea
The Jam – The Eton Rifles
* Jonathan Coulton – Re: Your Brains
The Zombeatles – Ate Brains a Week
* The Smashing Pumpkins – Stand Inside Your Love
Camouflage – The Great Commandment
Erasure – Ship of Fools
World Party – Ship of Fools
New Order – Temptation
Joy Division – Love Will Tear Us Apart
* Steam Powered Giraffe – Scary World

As always, the sets that ramble all over the place and dive into various genres are the most fun, and it’s quite a challenge to get songs to mix well together.   There are one or two musical speedbumps in this playlist, but overall, it was pretty seamless and fun to hear.
