A Mighty Megalithic Man – Fantasy Faire Lucentia Tour

Fantasy Faire - Lucentia Region

After wandering through the dark faerie land of Otherworld, I decided to head back to Lucentia for a bit of a rest, and to collect my bearings for the next tour of this fantastic Second Life event.

Lucentia is more subdued than the other regions, but no less spectacular.  It is nestled on a quiet meadow, and is awe-inspiring in its sheer magnitude.  Greek Ionic columns tower mightily above a shimmering lake.  An electrifying giant crystal glimmers just off the water’s edge, inviting you to bask in its dazzling glory.

Wandering Lucentia - A Tour of Fantasy Faire

As I moved away from my resting spot, I flew up to the crystal and was spotted by a Titan.  I’ve seen a couple of these giants moving across the Fairelands, but didn’t get too close…until now.  We ended up on the same walkway, but he was nice enough not to squish me under those gargantuan boots.  Thank you, Mega Man!

Wandering Lucentia - A Tour of Fantasy Faire He is rather a nice fellow, so if you see him wander, say Hello. Wandering Lucentia - A Tour of Fantasy Faire

It’s hard not to feel a bit tiny and insignificant around such large and grandiose buildings.  If you find yourself wandering in Lucentia, definitely hit up some of the wonderful merchants there, and help the fight against cancer!

Now that I’ve gained my bearings, I’m off to the next sim. See you there!

Otherworld – a Tour of Fantasy Faire

Fantasy Faire - In Otherworld as a Flying Qilin
Fantasy Faire, Second Life’s biggest Relay for Life Fantasy themed charity event, is currently in full swing.  It opened to the public on April 21, and as of this writing, the event has brought in over $11,000 USD for The American Cancer Society!

Avatar Bizarre, as mentioned before, has a booth at the Faire, and thank you to everyone who is buying things from me and the other merchants.  Every little bit helps.

I decided to take a little tour of all 13 sims the other day.  The first few photos were a whirlwind “If This Is Tuesday, It Must Be Belgium” tour, which resulted in one photo in every sim over the course of a night.

But it really doesn’t do the faire justice.  So I wanted to spend a little time visiting each sim, and showing off some really neat builds, while also showing off some of the things Avatar Bizarre has to offer.

Fantasy Faire - In Otherworld as a Flying Qilin

The Otherworld Sim is an incredible mix of glowing plants, spires, and natural formations.  Otherworld is nestled far from the trade routes, boats and trails, roads and civilization are unknown.  It’s a breath away from you, just beyond the shimmering mist. This is a mysterious and magical place, the world of heroes and gods of the Faerie Realm.

I wandered aimlessly, always trying to capture that fleeting glimpse in the corner of my eye.  Non-corporeal beings hid in plain site, always just out of reach; flickering lights and echoing laughter haunting the lonely traveler.

Fantasy Faire - In Otherworld as a Flying Qilin

Sponsored by Cerridwen’s  Cauldron and built by Elicio Ember, this sim is host to many fine merchants, so don’t forget to check out their booths while you explore this mystical realm of Faerie.

I flew through the crystal caves on my way to the next new adventure, but couldn’t resist the temptation to admire the glowing treasures up close.

Fantasy Faire - In Otherworld as a Flying Qilin

I’m a real fan of shiny things, as you can see.  They’re a wonderful distraction, and look spectacular in every way.

I could keep adding photos, but there’s just so much to see and so many things to do!  It’s difficult to keep from going broke in this event, but I have to say that the quality of all the merchants, the fun of the Quest (you can get your Quest HUD at all the sim landing points), and the amazing team who brought us yet another great Fantasy Faire, this is one of the reasons Second Life is such an amazing place.

Stay tuned for more adventures from the Fairelands, brought to you by little old me.

Lucentia is a Fantasy Come True

AB-Fantasy-Faire_001

Fantasy Faire is now OPEN!  For those of you who have somehow missed this momentous Second Life Event, it happens every April, without fail.  It encompasses several sims, each of which has a different builder.  All builders have unique and spectacular ideas for the look of the sim to which they’ve been assigned.  The Faire exists to raise money for Relay for Life, and boy do they ever!  Between all the merchants selling things on RFL vendors, and all the donation kiosks and gotya machines, they raise thousands of dollars to eradicate cancer.  You can get to Lucentia Sim here —>  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Lucentia/65/129/53

Of course, you should see what’s lurking around the booth, but here’s a bit of a sample for you good folks.

The Gaia, Gaius, and Zaahn Boots are the Relay for Life offerings. 100% of proceeds go to Relay for Life!

Robin Hood is a well-known and beloved legend.  Everyone knows he robbed from the rich, and gave to the poor, surrounded by his Merry Men.  He spent a lot of time getting the better of the Sheriff of Nottingham, and also managed to get the girl.

A Fantasy of Fever Dreams – Zaahn Preview

Avatar-Bizarre-Zaahn-VThe lone traveler contemplated his fate.  He had been forcefully sent to a desolate and eerie island, where little made sense.  The carnival was deserted, and little wonder why.  The clown statues littering the grounds appeared sinister and dangerous.  They loomed through the mist, menacing grimaces that must have delighted once, though he doubted it.  He didn’t like clowns.  It was a trust issue; you couldn’t feel safe around a creature with a grin that wide, yet so dark and wretched inside.

Avatar-Bizarre-Zaahn-IIIThe traveler was undaunted by the menacing clown as he attempted a trick he’d learned long ago.  He was surprised to learn he still had the strength for the trick on a stack of chairs.  Still, that clown…  A trickle of cold sweat coursed down the back of his neck.  With a lurch, he tumbled off the chair and rolled away from that clown in haste.  Why are there so many clowns?  Why won’t that incessant creepy laughter die down?

Avatar-Bizarre-Zaahn-IIHe’d had enough.  He left the carnival and wandered the rest of the lonely island till he came upon a dead tree.  “How can I get off this wretched island?” he thought miserably.  “Can’t sleep.  Clowns will eat me.”

Avatar-Bizarre-Zaahn-IVThe Zaahn is Avatar Bizarre’s latest creation.  Available soon at Fantasy Faire, it includes 5 standard sizes, system layer underpants in all colors, an Omega pants applier for mesh bodies, and an alpha.  The boots are available as a separate item, and also include a color HUD with all the color options, and two sizes (male/female).  Everything has been materials enhanced for your viewing pleasure.  Zaahn will be available for men and for women.

Coming soon! Watch this space for landmarks and announcements.

Chaos Will Swallow the Sun – Fantasy Faire Sneak Preview #3

“Out of Chaos comes Order.” – Neitsche

Apophis, also known as Apep, is the God of Chaos and Destruction in Ancient Egypt.  He is the serpent that threatens to swallow the sun.  Imprisoned by one of Ra’s three incarnations, Khepri the Scarab in the underworld known as Duat, the serpent battles Bast in an epic battle that has lasted for millennia.  Should the force of Chaos ever emerge, the world would be cast into a maelstrom of darkness and disorder.  Ma’at, the Goddess of Order balances the Chaos.  One cannot exist without the other.

Avatar Bizarre has a new set of eyes coming out for Fantasy Faire called Apophis.  Apophis Eyes endow your ever changing look with a tiny bit of chaos.  The color HUD included with this set gives you eight color choices with the mesh eyes, plus eight pairs of system eyes for the die-hards out there who prefer old school eyeballs.  Eat set also includes an alpha, and the eyes are materials enhanced for a little extra bit of shine.  The cost for these modify/copy eyes will be 120L.

Everything I Do I Do For You – Fantasy Fair Sneak Preview

https://i1.wp.com/i.gyazo.com/059c2ae08e57821c4b7f6e755cf9f5fa.png

Avatar Bizarre has, by some amazing circumstances, and a bit of applying, made it into this year’s Second Life Fantasy Faire, an event created to raise money and awareness for Relay for Life.  To be fair, there have been a couple of sneak previews as yours truly jumped the gun and started making stuff just in case.  Enthusiasm, coupled with that elusive Inspiration has resulted in a few new things.

You already got a sneak preview of the Goblin King and the Boudica Armor.  Now let me give you a taste of the Goblin Queen!  Of course this is mostly because my lovely model (pictured above and below) is champing at the bit for a picture or two.  The Goblin Queen, like the King in a previous post, is going to be available in seven colors and includes the pants and jacket (plus alphas) and shoulder armor (one shoulder).

https://i1.wp.com/i.gyazo.com/b25778e7fb3d2099417775ea84194020.png

If you’re itching for just the jacket, don’t worry!  The jackets for the Queen and King will be available solo with a Color change HUD (all seven colors), plus the shoulder armor and requisite alpha.

In other news, there’s a set of boots for both King and Queen available.  The boots will include a rigged and an unrigged pair, plus Color change HUD.  All pieces in the ensemble are materials enhanced. Demos will be available for everything, so please feel free to try them out!

I’m Here to Kick Ass and Chew Bubblegum…and I’m All Out of Bubblegum

https://i1.wp.com/i.gyazo.com/80a9cc068beb20672826e1de80995985.jpg

Leave it to Misha to spur me into action when it comes to making armor for the distaff in Second Life.  Okay, so it only took me a month and a half to get on the stick and actually make it, but hey, sometimes you have to get up the nerve to outfit someone with big swords like this.

There’s an absolute truism in Second Life:  Avatars tend to be Way Too Tall.  Like abnormally Wookiee tall.  Heck, they’d probably dwarf Peter Mayhew in real life, and I know for a fact that man stands over seven feet tall.  I’ve met him in all of his morose grumpiness.  He’s the kind of guy you walk up to and say, “How’s the weather up there?” and then you get your butt kicked into next Tuesday.  But I digress…

Second Life is full of really tall, generally disproportionate avatars.  You can really run the gamut of shapes, from massive buttshelves to eight foot tall pin-headed galoots.  Speaking of which, Misha told a story about the day she went shopping for swords and was confronted by such a galoot.  Misha, if you don’t know, is a midget in Second Life terms.  Like me, she stands at a paltry six foot three or four.  Tiny.  Miniscule.  However, she is also very much shaped in a pleasing way, and likely attracts the attention of many a galoot.  However, for some reason, galoots have this tendency to believe that it’s okay to try to intimidate those who are perceived as smaller and weaker than they are.  The problem for these guys is they usually have brains to match their pin-heads, so it’s pretty amusing to put them in their place with a well aimed comment, even if there isn’t much sport in it.

With permission (I hope…Misha will probably get a kick out this me quoting her here) let’s relive the shopping experience, shall we?  Names have been changed to protect the innocent.

XXX: smiles, aren’t you too pretty and tiny to be looking at swords?
Misha Selene: No, apparently I need a backup weapon to gut you with…

It really makes you inordinately proud.

So all of this is just a long-winded way of saying, “Hey, look at this new armor!”  It will, hopefully, be debuted at Fantasy Fair.  It’s typical:  Standard sizing, materials enhanced.  It comes with rigged pants, corset, and chainmail shirt, along with unrigged shoulder, arm, wrist, thigh, and shin guards, plus a cloak with a hood (combination of unrigged mesh and flexi prims).  The boots are from the Avatar Bizarre Panzermensch collection, but I’m sure at some point before the fair I’ll be making a pair of boots for this as well.  So yeah, stay tuned and all that.  Oh yeah, and there’s a few colors available (pants, corset, and cloak).

How Many Licks Does It Take to Get To the Center of the Labyrinth?

https://i2.wp.com/i.gyazo.com/d2aac645b90bdb600cf44be8e314d6a4.jpg

My friends all know I have a borderline stalkerish admiration for David Bowie.  Every time he’s visited my area for a show, I’ve gone.  Sometimes multiple times for the same tour.  The music collection includes something like 800+ songs – versions and reversions, covers and originals, live and studio…legitimate and bootleg recordings of all things Bowie.  Heck, there’s even some Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, and Mott the Hoople in the mix for good measure.  Then there’s the fact that Bowie’s appearance in Zoolander makes me giggle every time I see it.  But then, I laugh like a little kid at Family Guy, but I digress…

In short, I consider David Bowie to be a demigod of some sort, and possibly an alien with photogenic superpowers.

So it should come as no surprise that some of the designs at Avatar Bizarre should be pretty heavily influenced by Mr. Bowie’s extensive wardrobe.

So, without further ado, and with much aplomb, I give you an advance look at the Goblin King!  This is a rigged mesh outfit, which consists of jacket and pants.  The boots are from the Panzermensch collection at Avatar Bizarre, but I have no doubt that quite a few tall boots should work pretty well with the pants.  And here’s the really good news:  If you don’t want the entire outfit, the pants and the jacket will be sold separately, just in case you want one or the other, but not both.  In even better news, for my female friends at least, there is also a women’s version available.  So you can put down those pitchforks and torches.  The lynching is completely unnecessary, I assure you!

The pants/jacket combo will be available in seven colors, and include an alpha for both pieces, plus full perm alpha textures just in case you want to work on your own set of alphas.  Standard sizing applies, and there will be a demo available.  Oh and lest I forget, it’s all materials enhanced, so yeah.  There’s that too.

Now for the bummer news:  This outfit will debut at Fantasy Fair in Second Life (which starts in April), unless I don’t get in, in which case it will be released my mainstore location and on the Marketplace in April.

Pictures of the female version will be posted here as soon as things are textured, and my model becomes available to pose for pictures.
