Hidden Sanctuary Events: Everlasting Love starts on September 12.

The everlasting love of the night is the second Gothic wedding affair of the year for Hidden Sanctuary Events, so you will find a plethora of amazing items from a bunch of different designers.  This event only lasts a week, so hit it early for some great stuff!

Avatar Bizarre is, once again, taking part, and is offering two new pairs of shoes!  They are both SLink enhanced, Materials enhanced, and include a color change HUD.  Both pairs are unrigged, and copy/modify.

Available starting October 12.  175L per pair.  You can get the SLurl and information about the event here.

Lucius Shoes, named for our good friend Mr. Malfoy (yeah yeah, all you Harry Potter naysayers!).  Lucius was a man with elegance, a wicked demeanor, and a seething menace to all who oppose him.  He wore only the finest clothing, so of course he’d have a nice pair of slick leather shoes.

These shoes include a color HUD with six dark hues, and glisten in the light of the moon.  From the sharp low heel to the shiny silver rivets, your appearance will be enhanced with this great pair of shoes!

Avatar Bizarre Lucius Shoes I

Crowley Boots are the other offering this round.  Inspired by the Archangel Crowley in Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s novel “Good Omens”, Crowley was described as a disturbingly snakelike man with a penchant for staring too much, and wearing shoes that made his feet look suspiciously like reptile feet.

The Crowley Boots are unrigged SLink enhanced, with materials.  They can be modified and copied, and include a color HUD with six colors to choose from.

Made from the finest pixel snake skin, these boots will make a fine addition to your wardrobe.

Magic Dance!

Avatar-Bizarre-Jareth-Costume-Female“You remind me of the babe — What babe?
The babe with the power? — What power?
The power of Voodoo — Who do?
You do — Do what?
Remind me of the babe.” – D. Bowie, Magic Dance (Labyrinth)

Jareth, the King of Goblin City, rules over the Labyrinth.  He is an imposing and magical figure, surrounded by all the fantastic creatures in the World of Labyrinth.  He has all the power he needs, commands a host of sycophantic goblin folk, and has some mad talent for singing and dancing.  Yet he lacks the thing he craves most:  The love of his life.  He sought to please her by taking away her troublesome baby brother, then offered her thirteen hours to find her way through his Labyrinth to his castle in the center of Goblin City.  He reordered time for her.  He did all she asked.  In the end, she rejected him, and he flew off as a great Barn Owl. Avatar-Bizarre-Jareth-costume-for-men

As perpetrator of Avatar Bizarre, I get my inspiration from a variety of sources, and this outfit is heavily inspired by what David Bowie wore during the Magic Dance scene.  The rigged mesh outfit comes with the standard five sizes for both men and for women, the crescent moon pendant, and a color HUD that changes the colors for both outfit and pendant separately.  The HUD gives you six colors to choose from.

AVatar-Bizarre-Jareth-Pendant
The boots for this outfit are sold separately.  There’s a male version, and a female version (male is simply larger than the female version).  The boots include a color HUD with six colors, as well as being materials enhanced.

Aloha, Mr. Hand! The Hawaiian Shirt Gets a HUD!

AB-Hawaiian-Shirt-Hibiscus

“Well Stu I’ll tell you, surfing’s not a sport, it’s a way of life, it’s no hobby. It’s a way of looking at that wave and saying, “Hey bud, let’s party!” – J. Spicoli, Fast Times at Ridgemont High

It’s finally happened.  The “Best Of” blog post, which sneaks up on a person quite sneakily, and insists on showing things you may have seen before.  Unlike the normal “Best Of”, this particular piece has been given a bit of a make over.  You see, it used to be a Hawaiian shirt you could get as single colors and patterns.  Oh, you still can, if you look hard enough on the Second Life Marketplace, but I’m here to tell you that if you really want a Hawaiian Shirt from Avatar Bizarre, you’re getting six whole colors in one of three patterns for the price of about one and a half of the old shirt.  So what a deal!

Thing is quite a lot of older merchandise I can’t seem to delete has been getting a mesh make over and, in some cases, a color HUD make over.  A case in point:  The Hawaiian Shirt!

AB-Hawaiian-Shirt-Fronds

What started off as a system layer ensemble (The Spicoli), became mesh.  And then the mesh expanded into a color HUD with six colors.  There are three patterns available:  Hibiscus (top photo), palm fronds (above), and palm tree (below).  Each shirt is an extremely casual open shirt with a system layer teeshirt underneath.  Since this is for your favorite surfer dude, the teeshirt has a picture of a nifty Orca emblazoned across the chest.

The color HUD is simple and easy to use, and each color HUD includes six colors (though I somehow managed to only show five in these particular images).  Oh well, Aloha, Mr. Hand.  Time is precious, and most of us would rather be kicking back on a beach somewhere with a cold drink and a nice umbrella.

These are currently available on the Marketplace and inworld.

In the Depths of Mania – The Die Form Suit and a Pair of Shoes

saddle shoes four
Die Form is German for Form or Shape. I’m sure Florian, or any of my other friends well-versed in German could confirm this, or at least correct this if I’m completely wrong.  Die Form is also a post-industrial dark electronic band that formed out of France sometime in the late 70s, and continues today.  If you really want to dive deeper into some sort of meaning here, it’s also a play on words, a splitting of the word, “Deform”.  It’s kind of like how DEVO is short for De-Evolution, only somehow more austere and Goth.

When making a Goth outfit for Second Life, one must come up with a clever name, based on something out of the Goth subculture.  Most of the time, creators pick out words in a song lyric, or just use the title of a song that strikes their fancy.  In the case of this outfit, it seemed rather fitting (heh) to use the name of an entire band.  I’m sure they won’t mind, particularly as it’s an actual German phrase anyway.

saddle shoes three

“Inspiration is a cat.  It never comes when you call it, but when it does finally wander in you’d better pay attention, or it’ll claw your leg pretty hard.”

While casting around for inspiration, a thought hit me:  Why not update something that got made in the past and make it better?  Yeah, except I’m kind of done with those older designs.  Let them fester on the Marketplace for folks who are still interested in buying system clothing with prim attachments.  There’s nothing wrong with that, mind you.  The texturing on those outfits is still pretty darn good.  But honestly, I’ve been on a mesh kick for a while now, and nearly the whole Second Life store (you know, the one inworld) has been nearly completely converted to mesh things.  Then I thought, “Well, Vintage things work really well for the whole Goth look.”  That’s when the epiphany hit:  MIX THE STYLES!  Seriously, there’s nothing wrong with mixing historic and Vintage and whatever else, as long as the ensemble works, right?  Real Life fashion designers do this all the time, to varying effects and degrees.

So Die Form was born.  This is a heavily brocaded Pseudo Edwardian Jacket with a bit of a modern Versace flare.  The coat has medium lapels, and a single silver button closes it in the front.  The velvet coat layers over a silken black narrow collared shirt, and a darkly jewel-toned satin neck tie.  The ensemble ties together with a pair of pleated herringbone pants.

Die Form, like all rigged mesh at Avatar Bizarre, has a free demo available.  Available in several colors, it’s materials enabled for your viewing pleasure, and includes five standard sizes.  My avatar (the one shown, naturally) is a medium.  The cost for this fashion feast is 375L per color.

saddle shoes two

No suit would be complete without a nice pair of shoes.  Although shoes do not come with the actual suit, Avatar Bizarre has just released this nifty pair of Saddle Shoes (unisex) with a color HUD.  The HUD includes eight colors:  Black, Silver, Brown, Red, Green, Blue, Teal, and Purple. The shoes themselves were built for SLink flat feet, but there’s also a pair of shoes to fit the system avatar feet.  An alpha is included for the system feet, and these shoes have been materials enhanced.  They are also modify and copy, and unrigged so you can easily resize them as needed.  The cost for the shoes is 175L.

“I blame Society.  Society made me what I am…” – Duke, Repoman

And with those famous dying last words of the penultimate mohawk wearing film antogonist, I give you the Spizzenergi ensemble from Avatar Bizarre!  You too can revel in the styles of a bygone era; an era steeped in a crazy and rebellious subculture.  People listened to three chord bands, often discordant, more often than not, hardly able to play their own instruments without a sneer and flailing.  It was a time when you could change your name to Seeth Ransom or Jed Horrid, and create your own bubble of anarchy in a rancid system of broken society and failing governments.  You could dance to your favorite bands, like Dead Kennedys, New York Dolls, Dead Boys, and the Ramones.  You lamented the loss of Johnny Thunders and Sid Vicious.  You rammed safety pins in your nose and leather jacket.  You were a Punk Rocker, and Anarchy reigned supreme.

Named for a band from the late 70s/early 80s (that changed its name every year), this ensemble is 100% rigged mesh, and is available in both male and female versions.  For both genders, the pants and the tank are sold separately, and both come with a color change HUD with six choices.

The tank declares:  “PUNK’S NOT DEAD.  It was bitten by a zombie and now it wants to eat your brain.”

Want to know more?  Fine.  I’ll put on some Black Flag while you head over to the Marketplace or inworld to check things out.

Orbital Be-Bop – Skydancer Shoes!

Dancing in heaven, I never thought
I’d ever get my feet this far (orbital be-bop) – Q Feel, Dancing in Heaven (Orbital Be-Bop)

The Skydancer Shoes are here, and they’re ready to make you feel like soaring!  These 100% unrigged mesh shoes are the latest in Avatar Bizarre’s growing footwear collection, and feature a color HUD that gives you seven different color choices.  Along with the full spectrum, these shoes were built to accommodate the SLink male flat foot.  However, as these are modify and copy, you should be able to resize them for the SLink female flat foot.  With a little tweaking of size and position, these should also fit the conventional Second Life avatar foot.  Materials enhanced for your viewing pleasure!

With a Little Help From My Friends – The Sgt Pepper Marching Band Suit

What would you think if I sang out of tune
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I’ll sing you a song
And I’ll try not to sing out of key – With a Little Help From My Friends, The Beatles

Occasionally, the Vintage Bug will hit.  This tends to happen when I’ve got the classic rock playing on the computer.  A light bulb will pop on with a specular TING! and a EUREKA moment will occur, then suddenly I’ll be nose deep in Blender and Photoshop while feverishly pasting bits of my brain into place.  Truth to tell, this outfit wasn’t from such an epiphany.  My model, Misha (shown above, naturally), mentioned something about wanting a Sgt. Pepper outfit.

One of the perks of being a model (particularly if one is able to give some really good constructive criticism on things) is when I’m able, I’ll make what my model has asked for. Most of the ideas bandied about tend to get made sooner or later. It just depends on motivation and whatnot.

If the design looks a little familiar, you have a keen eye.  While this outfit was originally intended as you see it in this post, I did end up giving it a darker look for the World Goth Fair.  Currently, the Sgt Nemesis is still available at World Goth Fair (and in the main store, just in case the event is too packed to enter).  The Sgt Pepper version is lighter and brighter, and includes epaulettes, which are my nemesis (hah).  As with Sgt Nemesis, this is available for male and female avatars.  Each has five sizes, is materials enhanced, and the demo is free.  Though the demo texture is actually a Sgt Nemesis color, you should get the drift.  If you still need to see the suit on an actual avatar, feel free to ping me in the afternoons slt.  If I’m available (IE: near my computer), I’ll be happy to model the outfit for you…at least the male version.

A Phantom to Lead You…Sneak Preview for World Goth Fair

When I was a young boy,
My father took me into the city,
To see a marching band… The Black Parade, My Chemical Romance

World Goth Fair is less than a week away.  For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure, this is an annual event held on the Cursed sim, which features several merchants and their spectacular Gothic wares, plus a whole lot of live Gothic DJ music. World Goth Fair was originally a charity event, but it will be a little different this year, because Linden Lab has made it mind-bogglingly difficult to set up charity events without huge migraines and small animal sacrifices.  I’m sure they’d insist on virgins being thrown into the nearest pixilated volcano, but those are hard to find in Second Life these days.  I’ll leave it up to you whether you think I mean volcanoes or virgins.

All snarkiness and Linden Lab aside, World Goth Fair is a fantastic outlet for all things Goth.  All the Gothiness will be available in one handy sim.  You can peruse things at your leisure as you listen to some prime Gothic music (Pretentious, Moi? is a perennial favorite with Cursed residents), and there will be a fabulous build for taking pictures of all your awesome new things.

Avatar Bizarre is, once again, a part of World Goth Fair, and will be bringing a few brand new goodies into the mix, including the Sgt. Nemesis Marching Band outfit shown here.

https://i1.wp.com/i.grab.la/0550a-8eaa1282-b8e2-4f42-b9f2-6dd33139080b.png

I get by with a little help from my friends, especially when it comes to marching band outfits.  This number, named for half a Beatles album, and all of a Shriekback song, is rigged mesh and includes five sizes and an alpha.  The good news is it comes in six colors.  In even better news, it’s available for both men and women!

With apologies to my normal model, Misha, time got away from me while I was off working on a severe real life deadline, and I suddenly found myself with less than a day to make, texture, and photograph the female version of this outfit.  But a personal note to her:  There’s going to be a Sgt Pepper-Bright version of this outfit pretty soon.  Meanwhile, here’s my mug as a female avatar.

https://i1.wp.com/i.grab.la/0550a-aa084fc8-9538-4bd3-bb66-94d6c4fe21c6.png

There will be a few other goodies available from Avatar Bizarre, which will debut at World Goth Fair.  Stay Tuned for more!

World Goth Fair opens May 15.  You can get more information at the blog.

You Sexy Thing – 70s Foxy Lady Jumpsuit

Where you from, you sexy thing?
Sexy thing, you
I believe in miracles
Since you came along, you sexy thing – Hot Chocolate, You Sexy Thing

Just when you thought it was safe, the Jive Talkin’ 70s came roaring back with a disco flair as only that decade can.  The 1970s saw a lot of political strife, social change, and one heck of a great poster from Farrah Fawcett.  In the midst of all the pop culture of Car Wash, Smokey and the Bandit, Bee Gees, Watergate, Gilligan’s Island reruns, Star Wars, and eventually the rise of Punk, came that rollerskating, funky dancing, smokin’ hot beat of the Disco dance.  Along with Disco, came the signature styles:  The leisure suits, the polyester, and the ubiquitous shiny rayon jumpsuit.

Avatar Bizarre, is happy to present the 70’s Foxy Lady Jumpsuit.  This outfit, strong enough for a man, but made for a woman (hah, I hope I’m not the only one to get that reference!) is materials enhanced and comes in eight groovy colors.  Sorry, folks, the shoes aren’t included, but I’m sure if you asked my model nicely, she might tell you where she got those wonderful wedge heels.

Once Upon a Time in Mexico – A Mariachi Suit

https://i0.wp.com/grabilla.com/05406-69d2b00a-3072-4021-abc2-c44ef057094d.png

 De colores, de colores
Se visten los campos en la primavera.
De colores, de colores
Son los pajaritos que vienen de afuera.
De colores, de colores
Es el arco iris que vemos lucir.- De Colores, a Traditional Mexican Folk song

Cinco de Mayo is coming up, and we’re just about set to celebrate with Mexican flags flying, ladies dancing with skirts a-whirl, and the folk music of our neighbors South of the Border.  While we enjoy Tamales, so spicy they will blow off the top of your head before you can gulp down a chilled glass of Horchata to ease the flames tracing their way through your digestive tract, let’s pay homage to the musician of the mesa; a wondrous player of the guitar, the bass, and the concertina.  I am speaking, of course, about the mighty Mariachi.

He wanders from town to town with guitar in hand, and a sombrero on his head to ward off the intensity of the midday sun.  He is the minstrel who sings his tales – everything from the colors of the sky, on up to the Ballad of Heisenberg in Breaking Bad.

https://i1.wp.com/grabilla.com/05406-e8bc1bc8-2f18-4683-a340-f8a4e3e7a123.png

Of course, he is decked out in a richly embroidered suit, once reserved for the horsemen of the desert.  The Charro suit is a traditional garment that has endured for decades.  This suit consists of long pants, short jacket, vest, shirt and bolo style tie.  The whole ensemble is topped with a matching sombrero, and fastidiously embroidered.

The Mariachi outfit from Avatar Bizarre is available male avatars currently (please try the demos first), but the female version will be available by tomorrow – – just as soon as I can meet up with my model and take pictures.  A rigged mesh suit, it is one piece, with a separate modify/copy sombrero and the ubiquitous alpha for hiding body parts you don’t want showing through this magnificent ensemble.  Shoes are not included.  It is available in six vibrant colors.  Cost is 275L.
