One Thing You Need to Know About A Hidden Sanctuary

AB-Walk-the-night_001

Awake in the night to whisper your name
Only a silence replies it’s answer a sleeping refrain
The moment dies but memory stays
Love like a run our way by
We spin and we climb
To where once islands cried
And there sometimes angels can be devils too
It’s true of you
It’s true of you – The Damned, Sanctum Sanctorum – Phantasmagoria album

See this post to get the skinny on the Ashe suit, guys.  Then you can hop over to this post for more information on a delightful dress called Evelyn for the ladies.

Walk the Night With Me is a Gothic event in Second Life, which starts July 18.  It will cater to all things dark and romantic, so it was imperative to decorate the booth in rich purples.  Avatar Bizarre’s offerings for this event include a Gothic gown (sort of Virctorian style) for the ladies, and a stylized Victorian style Gothic suit for the guys.  In addition, there’s a Nyarlathotep head sitter with a color HUD available at a special 99L price just for the run of the event.

You can find the event Facebook group page here —> https://www.facebook.com/pages/Hidden-sanctuary-events/479579422210010

The suit being worn by that funny looking character in the booth is the Ashe suit in purple, because everything purple.  As you can see, there’s a demo available in that black and green box over yonder.

Jade Girl – The Dark Heavens Cheongsam

AB Dark Heavens_017

“At only twenty-eight I felt no great rush to settle into anything boring.” – White Tiger, Book 1 of the Dark Heavens Trilogy

In the Dark Heavens trilogy (Kylie Chan), Emma, an Australian living in Hong Kong, suddenly finds herself working as a nanny to the Dark Lord of the Four Winds, Xuan Wu.  He is the black turtle god or Shen, ruler of the Northern Heavens.  He’s a dark creature, the master of all Martial Arts, destroyer of Demons, and the owner of Wudang Mountain both on the Celestial plane and on the Earthly plane.  Five years prior, he had married a mortal woman and they had a child (half Shen, she would grow into a powerful force of nature).  Demons killed the wife of Xuan Wu and her family, leaving the Turtle Shen with his small daughter.

Emma works as a nanny to the Shen’s daughter, but eventually trains in the Arts, discovers she has an innate talent for both physical and energy work, and is able to protect the Dark Lord’s child from Demons, who would kidnap her in order to have power over Xuan Wu.  Of course, she also falls in love with Xuan Wu, though he is unable to touch her without draining her Chi (energy) and killing her.  She loves the daughter as her own, and swears to protect the daughter with her life.

One of the great things about diving into a good set of books is the inspiration, that can be drawn from them.  This is a story told from Emma’s point of view, and she describes all of the Immortals, the Shen, the Retainers, the Dragons, all the great characters from Chinese mythology (including the Jade Girl, the Golden Boy, Bai Hu the White Tiger, and more), and the traditions surrounding the mythical world opened up for her.  She describes a gown worn during a magnificent event; a black Cheongsam with a high Mandarin collar, and golden chrysanthemums embroidered in the silk.

AB Dark Heavens_019
The Dark Heavens Cheongsam is a semi-formal dress with three-quarter sleeves, made from the finest pixel silk, and embroidered in golden flowers.  It’s a gown that accentuates and showcases your figure while giving you a regal appearance.  It’s available in six beautiful jewel-tones, and materials enhanced to really make the embroidery pop.

Dark Heavens Cheongsam is available at Avatar Bizarre’s Marketplace Store and inworld.

In the Depths of Mania – The Die Form Suit and a Pair of Shoes

saddle shoes four
Die Form is German for Form or Shape. I’m sure Florian, or any of my other friends well-versed in German could confirm this, or at least correct this if I’m completely wrong.  Die Form is also a post-industrial dark electronic band that formed out of France sometime in the late 70s, and continues today.  If you really want to dive deeper into some sort of meaning here, it’s also a play on words, a splitting of the word, “Deform”.  It’s kind of like how DEVO is short for De-Evolution, only somehow more austere and Goth.

When making a Goth outfit for Second Life, one must come up with a clever name, based on something out of the Goth subculture.  Most of the time, creators pick out words in a song lyric, or just use the title of a song that strikes their fancy.  In the case of this outfit, it seemed rather fitting (heh) to use the name of an entire band.  I’m sure they won’t mind, particularly as it’s an actual German phrase anyway.

“Inspiration is a cat.  It never comes when you call it, but when it does finally wander in you’d better pay attention, or it’ll claw your leg pretty hard.”

While casting around for inspiration, a thought hit me:  Why not update something that got made in the past and make it better?  Yeah, except I’m kind of done with those older designs.  Let them fester on the Marketplace for folks who are still interested in buying system clothing with prim attachments.  There’s nothing wrong with that, mind you.  The texturing on those outfits is still pretty darn good.  But honestly, I’ve been on a mesh kick for a while now, and nearly the whole Second Life store (you know, the one inworld) has been nearly completely converted to mesh things.  Then I thought, “Well, Vintage things work really well for the whole Goth look.”  That’s when the epiphany hit:  MIX THE STYLES!  Seriously, there’s nothing wrong with mixing historic and Vintage and whatever else, as long as the ensemble works, right?  Real Life fashion designers do this all the time, to varying effects and degrees.

So Die Form was born.  This is a heavily brocaded Pseudo Edwardian Jacket with a bit of a modern Versace flare.  The coat has medium lapels, and a single silver button closes it in the front.  The velvet coat layers over a silken black narrow collared shirt, and a darkly jewel-toned satin neck tie.  The ensemble ties together with a pair of pleated herringbone pants.

Die Form, like all rigged mesh at Avatar Bizarre, has a free demo available.  Available in several colors, it’s materials enabled for your viewing pleasure, and includes five standard sizes.  My avatar (the one shown, naturally) is a medium.  The cost for this fashion feast is 375L per color.

saddle shoes two

No suit would be complete without a nice pair of shoes.  Although shoes do not come with the actual suit, Avatar Bizarre has just released this nifty pair of Saddle Shoes (unisex) with a color HUD.  The HUD includes eight colors:  Black, Silver, Brown, Red, Green, Blue, Teal, and Purple. The shoes themselves were built for SLink flat feet, but there’s also a pair of shoes to fit the system avatar feet.  An alpha is included for the system feet, and these shoes have been materials enhanced.  They are also modify and copy, and unrigged so you can easily resize them as needed.  The cost for the shoes is 175L.

HSe Walk the night with me_ A Gothic wedding affair 7_18-7_22

Walk the Night With Me is a Hidden Sanctuary Event centered around all things Gothic Wedding and Dark Love.  It takes place July 18th through the 23rd, and will feature all things dark and sticky.  A Gothic Wedding is one that evokes romance with a Victorian flare.

Avatar Bizarre is thrilled to be a part of this event, and will be debuting two new items, which will exclusive at the event until its end, then they will be released to the Marketplace and in the Main Store location afterwards.  The first of these items is the Evelyn, pictured above.  This gown is a lovely Victorian-style garment with a black leather corset, frilly black lace accents at the throat and the wrists, and sumptuous puffed sleeves.  The floor-length skirt is slim, and drapes gorgeously, ending in a lovely sweep on the floor.  The tiny hat adds that Brontean touch, and is finished off with black lace attached to the brim.

As always, all rigged mesh items can be tried on with a handy free DEMO.  This is available in six colors, and includes five sizes and the hat.

Unhallowed Metropolis – Phinaea Suit

 Grabilla screen capture:

In a city, dark and eerie, surrounded by the Vernian Wastelands, a lone figure emerges from the increasing fog in a final showdown…

She gazes unblinkingly at the menacing Dirigible of Doom, flown by her mortal arch-nemesis, a mad man bent on destroying the whole of civilization for his own nefarious gain. Reaching for the weapon in her coat, a powerful electrically charged object designed by Nicola Tesla himself, she takes aim and fires.  The white-hot lightning projects from the muzzle, hitting the dirigible, enveloping it in a blaze so super heated that a shock wave from the explosion could be felt for several hundred meters.  Phinaea remains stoic, unflinching, as her hair is blown back by the shockwave.  The war machine of her arch nemesis seems to drift lazily to the ground, supports and beams floating gently in all directions.  She bends down to retrieve her top hat, wipes a film of dust and soot from the goggles, and wanders off…

Phinaea is the counterpart to the mad men of the Steam age; a woman of strength, who is highly intelligent, yet lives in a Patriarchal society that values beauty over brains.  She works in secret as an agent of Artifact Recovery, seeking out devices and strange items imbued with magical properties, many of which are highly dangerous in any hands.  She is an author, using a famous pseudonym to publish her very real adventures as fiction.  She is Phinaea.

The suit worn by the Inventor, Author, and Adventurer is a twist on a previous release from Avatar Bizarre.  The Phinaea is rigged mesh that has been materials enhanced, and includes a full suit with pocket chain, and a high top hat with tintable goggles.

 Grabilla screen capture:

Become the adventurer you always wanted to be, and do it in style with this beautifully crafted outfit, made from the finest mesh velvet brocade, and lovingly stitched with the strongest of pixel threads.  The sleeves and pants cuffs were made to accommodate SLink hands and feet.  As with all things at Avatar Bizarre, this ensemble is available in several stunning colors.  Available inworld and on the Marketplace.

World Goth Fair – I Feel An Animal Deep Inside…

 Grabilla screen capture:

Hello, Darklings!
World Goth Fair (located here) is now OPEN!  For the next couple of weeks, you can get your serious Goth on with dozens of fantastic Goth merchants, a wonderful Stygian-Dark sim, and some great music as only a bunch of Goth DJs can inflict upon the huddled masses.

As mentioned earlier, Avatar Bizarre is thrilled to be a part of this amazing event in Second Life.  Several new items have been released for the fair, including the Dragonskin Coat shown in the photos.

The Dragonskin Coat, which is rigged mesh, and available for both men and women, is materials enhanced and comes with a color change HUD.  I would recommend getting your hands on this wonderfully vampiric coat, made from the finest pixelated dragon skin.  It’s well known that Gothic dragons are chameleonic in nature, so naturally a coat made from the skin of the dragon can change colors on demand..

 Grabilla screen capture:

In addition to the Dragonskin Coat, you will find the Sgt. Nemesis Marching Band uniform (in male and female versions), and the Arachne Jumpsuit (female only).  More pictures to come as your humble narrator wanders the sim in search of darkness and glory.

World Goth Fair is less than a week away.  For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure, this is an annual event held on the Cursed sim, which features several merchants and their spectacular Gothic wares, plus a whole lot of live Gothic DJ music. World Goth Fair was originally a charity event, but it will be a little different this year, because Linden Lab has made it mind-bogglingly difficult to set up charity events without huge migraines and small animal sacrifices.  I’m sure they’d insist on virgins being thrown into the nearest pixilated volcano, but those are hard to find in Second Life these days.  I’ll leave it up to you whether you think I mean volcanoes or virgins.

All snarkiness and Linden Lab aside, World Goth Fair is a fantastic outlet for all things Goth.  All the Gothiness will be available in one handy sim.  You can peruse things at your leisure as you listen to some prime Gothic music (Pretentious, Moi? is a perennial favorite with Cursed residents), and there will be a fabulous build for taking pictures of all your awesome new things.

Avatar Bizarre is, once again, a part of World Goth Fair, and will be bringing a few brand new goodies into the mix, including the Sgt. Nemesis Marching Band outfit shown here.

I get by with a little help from my friends, especially when it comes to marching band outfits.  This number, named for half a Beatles album, and all of a Shriekback song, is rigged mesh and includes five sizes and an alpha.  The good news is it comes in six colors.  In even better news, it’s available for both men and women!

With apologies to my normal model, Misha, time got away from me while I was off working on a severe real life deadline, and I suddenly found myself with less than a day to make, texture, and photograph the female version of this outfit.  But a personal note to her:  There’s going to be a Sgt Pepper-Bright version of this outfit pretty soon.  Meanwhile, here’s my mug as a female avatar.

There will be a few other goodies available from Avatar Bizarre, which will debut at World Goth Fair.  Stay Tuned for more!

World Goth Fair opens May 15.  You can get more information at the blog.

Sexy thing, you

Since you came along, you sexy thing – Hot Chocolate, You Sexy Thing

Just when you thought it was safe, the Jive Talkin’ 70s came roaring back with a disco flair as only that decade can.  The 1970s saw a lot of political strife, social change, and one heck of a great poster from Farrah Fawcett.  In the midst of all the pop culture of Car Wash, Smokey and the Bandit, Bee Gees, Watergate, Gilligan’s Island reruns, Star Wars, and eventually the rise of Punk, came that rollerskating, funky dancing, smokin’ hot beat of the Disco dance.  Along with Disco, came the signature styles:  The leisure suits, the polyester, and the ubiquitous shiny rayon jumpsuit.

Avatar Bizarre, is happy to present the 70’s Foxy Lady Jumpsuit.  This outfit, strong enough for a man, but made for a woman (hah, I hope I’m not the only one to get that reference!) is materials enhanced and comes in eight groovy colors.  Sorry, folks, the shoes aren’t included, but I’m sure if you asked my model nicely, she might tell you where she got those wonderful wedge heels.

Here it is, after a couple of false starts, some Firestorm issues, and a bit of a Blender SNAFU:  The female Mariachi Suit.  You, too, can be a desperado, a Charro, an equestrian.  Grab a guitar and head to the plaza with a couple of good friends and a pint of tequila.  Soon, you will be singing in harmony in this fantastic Charro suit!

Stone Face of the Silent Movie Era – The Buster Keaton Suit

Image

It would appear I suddenly found myself in 1920s Berlin looking for a prat fall where there were none to be had, so I found a little cafe near the canal and sat there contemplating a by-gone era.

Back in the day, movies were in their infancy, providing ravenous audiences with their first real glimpse of cinema magic.  Many a star shone on that silver screen, thrilling us with fantastic adventures, grand romances, dastardly deeds, and making us laugh with some of the greatest physical comedy the world had ever seen.  The master of this domain was Buster Keaton, whose diminutive stature, sad and brooding eyes, deadpan face (which earned him the nick name of “Stone Face Keaton”), and amazing acrobatics, earned him a top spot in movie making history.

Image

He performed his own stunts, and directed his own destiny as the greatest comedian of the silent film era and beyond.  His films are iconic.  Famous scenes live on in parody and homage.  You can see a bit of Buster in many films, TV shows, and cartoons of today.  You can even see some of his influence on the likes of the Marx Brothers and the Three Stooges.  He was, and always will be, the King of the Prat Fall.

Image

The making of this suit and the trip across the grid looking for 1920s era places to visit has obviously left me a bit exhausted, but in spite of that, here’s my tribute to a Hollywood Legend.

Avatar Bizarre is happy to present the latest in male Vintage clothing for Second Life.  Though my avatar resembles Johnny Depp in Benny and Joon more than Mr. Keaton, I can assure you that this outfit has been painstakingly crafted to be as true to 1920s fashion as we could get it.

From the straw pork pie to the leather wingtip shoes, this outfit is stunning, and will look good on any guy who wants to try on a taste of the Twenties.

Image

Available in Purple, Black, Sepia, Copper, Patina and Blue, each suit has a rigged striped coat, which should fit just about any male avatar.  There is a demo available, just in case.  Under the coat, you have a rigged mesh vest front (yep, just the front…but what a front!), a system layer shirt, system layer pants, rigged pant legs, mesh collar with tie, and mesh wingtip shoes.  Oh, and don’t forget the hat!  All men of the era wore hats, and Buster was no exception.  He was famous for his pork pie hat, whether it was made of straw, or made of felt.

Image

The suit is available in Second Life at Avatar Bizarre’s main store location.
You can also find it in the Second Life Marketplace site.

The cost of the suit, including shoes and everything, is 475L.  The shoes by themselves are 150L.
