Young Girl, They Call Them the Diamond Dogs

Avatar-Bizarre---They-Call-Them-the-Diamond-Dogs

When I heard about a David Bowie inspired event in Second Life, my first thought was, “I hope they’re still taking applications!”. My second thought was, “Who cares? I’m applying anyway!” Then the third thought was, “Even if the event is full already, I’m still making this thing!”

It turns out I got in just under the wire for this event, and the item I had started to make while I was hoping to get into the event was coming together quickly and nicely. You see, I’m a huge fan of David Bowie, and I’ve been making Bowie inspired outfits in Second Life for years.

Only this time I had an actual excuse, other than typical fan boy stuff. Now it’s been sanctioned by an event with deadlines and everything.

InspirationsSL is an event that uses various celebrities as inspiration for merchants. This round excites me quite a lot, because Bowie is a constant source of inspiration for my own creations.

Avatar-Bizarre---No-one-else-I'd-rather-be

Diamond Dogs, inspired by Bowie’s Halloween Jack period (That short bit between Ziggy Stardust and Plastic Soul) is a fitted mesh creation, made for the SLink Physique bodies, though they do fit regular default Second Life avatars pretty well. There’s a male version, and a female/femboy version available, and both have been materials enhanced. Both come with a color HUD and an unrigged scarf.

To top things off, or maybe to bottom them off…they are boots after all, the Future Legend boots are sold separately, but were made to work with this outfit. The boots are fitted mesh and the package contains versions for both male, and female/femboy. The boots, like the outfit, have a color HUD and an alpha.

Avatar-Bizarre---When-You-Rock-and-Roll-with-me

Both of these items are available at the InspirationsSL event, opening on June 19.  A landmark will be posted in a few days.

Der Fledermaus

Avatar-Bizarre-Fledermaus-IV
20Twenty is fast approaching, and this means Avatar Bizarre will have something new available at 20% off normal price for the duration of the event, staring April 20.

Fledermaus, which means “Bat”, is a Gothic suit that includes a high collared coat and shirt (mostly just the front part of the shirt), plus Omega pants appliers for mesh bodies.  For non mesh bodies, the system layer pants are included in all the colors.  The coat has a color HUD, and is materials enhanced.

Avatar-Bizarre-Fledermaus-III

I originally made this because someone asked me to make a Gothic coat she could wear.  But then things just sort of spiraled into a big production and the suit happened.  This coat fits nicely on the SLink Male Phsyique (pictured here, actually).  You just have to use the alpha HUD included with the body.  But it moves nicely, and works well for the discerning Goth.

The boots, pictured above, are sold separately and come rigged and unrigged.  If you look closely at the heel, you’ll see a little bat imprinted underneath.

A Twisted Odyssey

Twisted-Spring-Poster---2016
Twisted Hunt is lurking just around the bend in the road once more.

This is a grid-wide hunt that features many magnificent merchants, who will all be giving out a fantastic free gift for those willing to embark upon this perilous journey.  Beware, for here be monsters.

Once again, for the uninitiated:  Twisted Hunt, which will run from March 1-31, 2016, is the hardest hunt on the grid.  It is not for the faint of heart.  However, if you are willing, and put in a little effort, the pay off is grand.  Capped at 100 stores, each merchant will have a fantastic gift for those intrepid souls traveling the road to the End Game.

“But Sred,” You might say, a hint of pain in your voice, “How is this different from any other hunt?  There are, like, a million hunts in Second Life, and I almost always give up before I finish looking for stuff.”

Don’t worry, my friends.  Yes, some will give up in sheer frustration.  That is okay.  But for every person who fell to the side of the road, holding out their beggar’s cup, there are a lot more folks who make it to the end.  Here’s what you get for your effort:  Over 100 gifts.  Yes, over 100.  For, you see, many merchants have more than one gift, often set out as decoys.  You also get to participate in games:  Mazes, zombie hunts, puzzle games, whatever twisted ideas ooze from the minds of our erstwhile merchants.  There will also be gachas, both in the stores, and in the end game.  Many stores will have sales, Midnight Mania boards, Lucky Chairs, freebies and dollarbies, discounts for Twisted Hunters, the whole shebang.  Oh, and I did mention the End Game.  This will be quite a Quest, as you navigate the labyrinth to the center of Twisted City.  Once there, you will find many more prizes, gachas, and a Survivor Tag.

Are you a merchant interested in torturing the souls of our mighty hunters?  Go to http://twistedhunt.com.  Read the rules, then sign up.  It’s great fun.

Avatar Bizarre is a sponsor, and the prize gift will be posted here as soon as it’s made.

I highly recommend you join the Twisted Hunt group inworld.  We’re all a bunch of freakazoids, but there are volunteers who give hints for the various locations, and you can make some great friends.

It’s a Wondeful Twisted Life – Sneak Preview of Twisted Krissmuss

Twisted-Krissmuss-2015-7

It’s that time of year again; a time of giving, and a time of receiving.  Second Life is home to a lot of shopping events these days, but there’s an event that has been around for a long time, and has evolved into something pretty special in its journey through its years.  Welcome to Twisted Krissmuss.

Twisted-Krissmuss-2015-2

Twisted Krissmuss was created during the holidays following the first Twisted Hunt.  It started off as an instore shopping event, where people could travel from store to store and buy some wonderful items put out for the event.   Each item for the event was new, transferable, and 100L.

Although the previous organizers have since gone on to greener pastures, they left the event to new organizers, who not only kept up the tradition, but made some changes so the event could be held all in one place.  Merchants can show off their wares, but a specially marked, brand new item will be available for 100L, and it will be transferable.

Twisted-Krissmuss-2015-1
Twisted Krissmuss begins on December 7, and ends in the first week of January.  60 Merchants will have some wonderful items for sale, and there will be gachas galore!  But wait, there’s more!  In addition to the stuff you can buy, there will be several parties held in a special events area with live DJs, giveaways, and more.

As if that weren’t enough, there’s a beautiful sim to wander, take photos, and hang out.  There’s also an ice rink for those who love to go skating.  Skates will be available for free for folks.

Twisted-Krissmuss-2015-3

I don’t know about you guys, but I love a good Winter Wonderland.

There will be more to come as the event draws near…

Obi One Kimono – Avatar Bizarre is Turning Japanese for 20Twenty

Avatar-Bizarre-Hibari-Kimono-Red

20Twenty is a monthly instore event that starts on the 20th of the month, runs for 20 days, and features exclusive items from 20 designers at 20% off the normal price.  This is a wonderful way to showcase some amazing designers, and Avatar Bizarre is happy to be included in the October edition of 20Twenty!

There is no theme for the event, but I decided it might be fun to make a Japanese kimono for this round.  There will be a couple of new kimonos available at Avatar Bizarre, and they cost 275L each, but the 20Twenty version on sale for 20% off will be the Hibari kimono, which features a pair of sparrows in the branches of a cherry tree.

The kimono comes in six sizes (5 female, and one flat chest femboy size), and includes an unrigged obi bow and a color HUD with several color choices.  It is materials enhanced, and should fit most mesh bodies with their included Alpha HUDS.  In fact, my model, pictured above, is wearing the Maitreya Mesh Body.

Avatar Bizarre Hibari Kimono

If my math is correct, 20% off 275L is roughly 220L.  While the Hibari is on sale, there are two other kimonos available (Ryu and Sakura), which will be full price.  All Kimonos come with their own color HUD.

Scary Monsters and Super Creeps – or How Hocus Pocus Made a Monster

Hocus Pocus 2015 Poster

“She had an horror of rooms
she was tired ”
you can’t hide beat
When I looked in her eyes they were blue but nobody home

She could’ve been a killer
if she didn’t walk the way she do,
and she do
She opened strange doors
that we’d never close again

She began to wail jealousies scream
Waiting at the light know what I mean” – Scary Monsters, David Bowie

Hocus Pocus is an instore event that’s sort of like a hunt, but isn’t a hunt.  The idea is for folks to show up in a participating store, and clock on the Ghost to see if they win a free thing. The Ghost will show a picture of the item being offered by the merchant.  If you poke him a little too hard, he may not give you the item.  If you poke him in ways he enjoys, then he’ll hand you a shiny new thing!  If you don’t get the item, you have the option of trying your luck the next day, or you can bribe the ghost 50L to cough up the item you so desperately need.

If you’re into chances, and prefer free things, you have ten chances to win the free thing from the ghost.

Avatar Bizarre is thrilled to be a part of this event, and has come up with something kind of spooky:  The Monster Feet Slippers.  The version available for Hocus Pocus is limited edition made strictly for the event.  This version will disappear after the event, so if you want it, you’ll be taking your chances that the ghost is in a good and giving mood!

AB-Monster-Feet-Hocus-Pocus

If you prefer not to take your chances, there will be an additional release in the store.  The Monster Feet Slippers with Color HUD will be available for 175L.  This pair includes an eight color HUD, rigged for the default avatar food, and rigged for SLink feet versions, plus an unrigged version for those who prefer to resize/reposition things.  Both sets of feet being released are materials enhanced, 100% original mesh.

Going Medieval on Second Life – A Sneak Preview

Avatar-Bizarre-Order-of-the-Falcon

A Tale of Wanders, The Ancient Ones Return will be in full swing, starting August 8 and running through August 22 in Second Life.

The Ancients will take place in a fantastic setting where you can wander among huge mystical plants, imposing ruins, and lots of crumbly ivy-covered brick booths filled with amazing and interesting things.  Avatar Bizarre has a little nook all to itself in this fairyland, and there will be some great offerings to the huddled masses.

Avatar-Bizarre-Order-of-the-Falcon-II

Order of the Falcon (250L) is a new Medieval outfit for men; available in seven colors and materials enhanced.  This doublet and pants combination is lovingly detailed and includes five standard sizes, plus an alpha.  There’s a demo box sitting under all the vendors, so feel free to pick up a copy to check the fit.  In addition to the outfit, there’s a set of Order of the Falcon ankle boots for sale in the booth.  These shoes are unrigged, copy and modify, and include a color HUD with all seven colors (175L).  The shoes are also materials enhanced for your viewing pleasure.

Avatar-Bizarre-Order-of-the-Falcon-III

The Order of the Falcon has initiated a new member into the group of knights, who are sworn to protect the land from marauding evil monsters and villains.  The double headed falcon emblazoned on the chest is a symbol of strength and cunning, and is proudly worn by all members of the brotherhood.  Leather wrist guards protect a swordsman’s arms from an enemy’s blade, keeps the teeth of the Dire Wolf from ripping you asunder, and provides protection from the fire of the dragon.  The moonstone set into the belt is an amulet to ward off evil.

Better watch out, or we may go Medieval on you!
AB-Order-of-the-Falcon-Shoes-with-Color-HUD

Order of the Falcon shoes, though made to work with the Order of the Falcon outfit, can be worn by anyone.

So remember, August 8-22, the Ancients Return!  Along with the new outfit and shoes shown here, and the new toga for women shown in a previous post, there will also be wings with color HUDs, and a couple of Baudica Armor outfits for women.  Demos are available for all rigged outfits.

A Tattered Page – Addendum, or “Sense and Insensibility”

https://i2.wp.com/grabilla.com/04a19-f7850bf4-44be-491c-910e-0ecc924bace5.png

After some heated discussion about events in Second Life, and various ways they can be implemented, an experiment was born.  I find this rather apropos to A Tattered Page, where this experiment is to take place, since Victor Frankenstein was the perpetrator of one of the grandest and more horrifying experiments in literary history.  My only hope is that the undead creature due to rise from the morass of sludge that is the Second Life Marketplace does not end with the creator being destroyed by the Creature that was given life in the beginning…

A Tattered Page, as you may have surmised (if you haven’t been reading about it already), is an event centered around the classic novel “Frankenstein – or The Modern Prometheus” by Mary Wollstoncraft Shelley.  Doctor Frankenstein has inspired a lot of artists over the years, and he will be inspiring a whole set of Second Life creators in November for A Tattered Page.

But what of this experiment mentioned above?

Well, someone had the bright idea of incorporating the Second Life Marketplace into a Second Life event.  It all started in a thread on SLUniverse.com in which someone was complaining that events are often too lagged for easy shopping.  There are a myriad of reasons why, and I won’t go into them now.  Suffice to say there are arguments on both sides; from creators (IT LIVES!!) to event organizers to shoppers on the grid to self=proclaimed “Fashionistas” (Oh how I hate that term).

The idea proposed, in spite of many people explaining with small words and diagrams how awful listing things on the ponderously slow and poorly designed back end of the Marketplace can be, is that when an event starts, those involved in the event will also list stuff on the Marketplace and provide links to each item to someone who will be linking those links to the event website for “ease of shopping”.  Of course, my morbid curiosity piped up and said, “Okay, I’m game and will do it just to see what happens.”

I only hope I’m not going to end up chased down like an animal in the Arctic by the creature we’ve given life.  Heck, I don’t even want to be the dude in tap shoes singing “Puttin’ on the Ritz” with this monster.  We all know how these things turn out.

In any case, this is what’s going to happen:

There’s a purely voluntary movement for creators to list their stuff on the Marketplace, including the Event Exclusive item(s), and to send these links to one of the event coordinators so the items can be linked to the event website, where vendor pictures and store logos will be featured, along with the SLurl teleport link to each inworld store.  Since I was the first to proclaim that I am game for this (Hi, Mouth, you kind of suck sometimes), I will be doing just that.

All the Victor suits and all of the Elizabeth dresses featured in this blog earlier are listed on the Marketplace and will go LIVE on November 5 when vendor ads and links are due.

If nothing else, I do get a jump on listing the stuff on the Marketplace, which I would have done after the event anyway.  The gods know how much every merchant using the back end of that site detests it, and I’m no exception, but I do like to get the unpleasant bits out of the way.

So be sure to hit the A Tattered Page site for links to all the participating merchants.  I will also post my Marketplace links here at that time.

Till then I leave you with this:  If you’re blue and you don’t know where to go to why don’t you go where fashion sits, ARRRARRR RRARRR RARRRRR!”

World Goth Fair Goodies Coming Soon!

It’s that time of year again; that auspicious month of May, when the Goths come out in force to raise money for the Sophie Lancaster Foundation in Second Life and in Real Life.  Starting in May, the World Goth Fair will feature dozens of excellent merchants across three sims, each providing wares to help raise money for the charity. Avatar Bizarre is happy to once again be included in this event, and will be debuting some brand new items, plus a gacha item.  A portion of each gacha sale will go to the charity, plus a few choice items will also contribute, so stay tuned!

In addition to the stuff you can buy, there will be live DJs, all kinds of music, and a fair bit of gothy shenanigans.  Gothika will be selling licensed band items in a series of gachas, with proceeds going to the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.  At the moment the band list is formidable and awesome, but given how it went last year, there may be even more added to this year’s list.

So on to the nitty gritty here.  Avatar Bizarre has come up with a couple of nifty new items for the fair, and will only be available at the fair for the duration.  Once the fair ends, you will be able to get this stuff at the inworld store location, as well as on the Marketplace.

The first item on the To Be Released list is a new set of mesh eyes.  Each set contains a system eye layer, and mesh eyes in normal, fullbright, and glow.  All eyes are modify and copy.

In Roman legend, the Inferi were a collective of shadowy deities who were associated with death and the underworld. The Inferi represent the gods dark and horrifying nature.

https://i0.wp.com/grabilla.com/04414-79cf473f-82bf-4b2f-877c-75e51bb8d310.png

Inferi Eyes hearken back to dark times, reflecting a human skull in the pupil, and resplendent in ten Stygian colors, including Hazel, pictured above.

Next, we encounter the Cracked Eyes.  A porcelain finish gives these eyes the illusion of having been fired in a kiln.  The brushed on irises sit in the center of a luster of cracked glaze.  Ten colors shine with an antique china polish.

https://i1.wp.com/grabilla.com/04414-2b31ceed-ea26-4577-98d1-104be4336c85.png

And just for good measure, and because I don’t want to reveal everything at once, there’s the elusive Headalopod, coming soon to a Gacha near you!

https://i2.wp.com/grabilla.com/04414-c75480eb-a321-4b26-bf01-4cff1bdc8227.png

The Headalopod is the latest in fashionable Mollusk noggin wear for the discerning Second Life avatar.  Spawned entirely from mesh, this little creature clings happily to your skull in a variety of different colors.  Don’t let the vacant stare fool you.  This creature spends much of its time plotting ways to over throw the human race.  I, for one, will soon welcome our new Octopus Overlords.

Snakes Alive

https://i2.wp.com/grabilla.com/04315-31558f72-ba71-415f-b46a-a2ac7fb39261.png

A few years ago, I really got into reading anything I could get from Alan Dean Foster.  His novels are a fun read; imaginative, fast-paced and, in a lot of cases, just good light-hearted fun.  He’s written a lot of Science Fiction and Fantasy, including a series called Midworld, which takes place in a Commonwealth of planets in some distant galaxy.  The protagonist is a red head named Flynx, who has a friend named Pip, who happens to be a flying telepathic venomous snake creature.  In the novels she’s called an Alaspinian Minidrag.  I loved the character so much that I named my Brazilian Rainbow Boa after her.  Pip did eventually meet Mr. Foster at a convention when she was about half grown, and that’s where I learned he’s a big snake fan.  I knew he was a kindred spirit!

Then along came Second Life, and the ability to build whatever we want.  Imaginations soar, and fantasies come to life.  Well as much as they can come to life in a virtual Internet 3D platform.  As I learned to build things, I built some flying snakes using regular prims and sculpties.  They were a homage to Alan Dean Foster and his Midworld series character.  Initially I called them “Alaspinian MInidrags”.  A short time later, Mr. Foster emailed me asking that I change the name.  See, that name is licensed, he reasoned.  While I’d love to let you use the name, you really have to pay for the right.  No problem, I say.  I’m just a huge fan and wanted to make something as a homage, but you’re a cool dude and I have zero reason to antagonize you, my friend.

So the shoulder pets I had made became flying snakes.  I made a few different varieties along the way including a Rainbow Boa, a Mexican Black King Snake, and others.  They sold reasonably well, and Second Life gained some cute reptilian shoulder pets.

Then Mesh happened.  I really wanted to redesign the flying snakes, so I set about creating the new Flutter Snakes.  These little critters are 100% original mesh, and modify/copy so you can resize them to fit your shoulders.  They will be available in several varieties including milksnake, boa, and python.  I hope to debut them at Fantasy Fair this year in Second Life (May, 2014).
