Seeing the World Through Purple Tinted Glasses

Rocking-the-Lennon-Glasses-for-Vintage-Faire

It’s time yet again for //embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js” target=”_blank”>Vintage Faire in Second Life.  Avatar Bizarre’s participation in this event was purely by chance.  Well sort of.  The call went out to be a last minute fill in.  Literally last minute.  So last minute, that set up for merchant booths was supposed to be complete five minutes before I said “Yes, I’ll do it!”

But Vintage is what I do.  And lots of it.

As I scrambled to put together a few things for the booth, the Vintage Faire exclusive is this set of John Lennon-inspired glasses.  These are modify and copy, and include a color HUD with nine colors (the frames are kind of a blackie purple deal with all nine lens colors).  The glasses are materials enhanced for a bit of extra oomph.

Seeing-the-World-Through-Purple-Tinted-Glasses

This pair of glasses will look good on just about anyone, and I was told I looked like Top Gun Tom Cruise when I wear them. I’m not sure about that, but hey, if you like Tom Cruise in Top Gun, then I’m okay with the comparison.

There’s nothing like the rush of getting signed up for an event that needs you to be set up three days ago. I love every minute of this stuff, though, so hopefully you folks enjoy the Vintage Faire. There’s a lot of neat stuff this year; something for everyone.

Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair

At-the-corner-of-Haight-and-Ashbury

A long, long time ago, when rock music was still very young, a movement started in San Francisco. It was a time of protesting and change. War was ongoing in Vietnam. People were dodging the draft and heading to the Height in San Francisco.

As the song says, “If you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.”

Hippies gathered in Golden Gate Park for sit ins, and love ins. The sound of music filtered through the air, along with the aroma of incense and peppermint (and pot, but who’s counting?)

Twisted Summer of Love is the Twisted Hunt Events inaugural Summer Event, and we chose the Summer of Love as the theme this year. With bright colors and psychedelic patterns, you can be sure there will be plenty of vintage clothing, furniture, and other nifty things for sale from the 60 or so merchants.

We are proud to be an official team member of the Relay Rockers this year.  They perform a Woodstock event for Relay for Life in Second Life every Summer, so this was a natural pairing.

The-time-has-come-today

Avatar Bizarre has several brand new items being released at the event. The Relay for Life items are a male and a female Dashiki Shirt with a color HUD.  The Dashiki, inspired by the African tunic, has a brightly colored pattern over black.  These are rigged mesh, and come in the standard sizes.  The color HUD includes seven colors!  The male shirt definitely works with the SLink male body.  I can’t vouch for the female version, though I assume both bodies share the same alpha HUD.

Lingering-in-Golden-Gate-Park

Avatar Bizarre is also releasing a pair of denim shorts with a peace sign on the right leg. These shorts can be worn with the Dashiki. They also include a seven color HUD, and 5 standard sizes.

Psychedelic-Man

In addition to the Dashikis and the Shorts, There’s a new Twiggy-inpsired mini dress, and Go-Go Boots with a color HUD. So come support Relay for Life, and hit this amazing new event!

You can get there from here.

Pull a Comb Through Your Coal Black Hair – Zoot!

AB-Zoot-Suit-Riot
Avatar Bizarre has long been a purveyor of vintage and historic outfits, and the Zoot Suit is a perennial favorite.  This is the third incarnation of the outfit released in the store.  The first was released at a Vintage Fair a few years ago (system layers and flexi prims).  The second version was mostly mesh and made only for the male avatar.  It was also one of the first items I meshed up in Blender, so it was time for a bit of an update, which brings us to the third incarnation in the series.

AB-Zoot-Suit-Riot-IV
This particular Zoot Suit, unlike the last version, has an open coat, and comes in a female version, as well as the male.  To add to the whole Zoot Suit Riot, this outfit includes color HUDs for the coat/hat, and collar/tie.  There are eight colors which give you many, many more color combinations.  The shirt, which is a system layer (all eight colors included) is also on an Omega applier HUD for those folks wearing mesh bodies.

Please check here http://lovenlustdesigns.blogspot.com/p/supported-meshes.html to make sure the body you have is supported by the Omega applier system before you buy this outfit.

AB-Zoot-Suit-Riot-II

You get a lot of nifty colors, plus white (just in case you wish to tint something a color I haven’t provided).  All clothing items are copy/modify.  The rigged suit cannot be resized or repositioned, but it can be tinted.  The unrigged stuff can be resized and repositioned.

Feel free to try out the demo before you buy this suit.  The demo includes an applier for one of the shirt colors on the Omega system, so you can see if it works with your mesh body of choice.  For reference, the avatars pictured in this blog are a male SLink Physique and a Maitreya female body.

AB-Zoot-Suit-Riot-III
I’m still dinking with last minute details, like making the demo and whatnot, but I hope you enjoyed this sneak peak.  Again, this will be available, starting on January 6 at the Tesoro Nostalgia event.  Price and SLurl forthcoming when I have the details.

If you’re in for a spot of horseback riding, Avatar Bizarre has you covered with this new, improved version of the Dressage outfit.  The original only came in Male, and had system layer pants and shirt.  The new, improved version is also available as Female (which includes a flat chested X Small coat).

Here’s what you get:
– Rigged mesh coat with color HUD (eight colors)- System layer pants (9 colors), plus system layer shirt and gloves
– Pant, shirt, and glove layers on SLink and OMEGA applier HUDs

The Male version comes in five standard sizes.  The Female version comes in the standard five sizes, plus the flat chested X Small size for femboys, furries, and child avatars.  Try the demo first, though.

Avatar-Bizarre-Dressage---Rest-Stop

This should be released pretty soon.  I just need to finish uploading and scripting the female sizes.

Boots will be sold separately, and will include a color HUD.  They will not only be materials enhanced, but will come with rigged and unrigged boots.

Magic Dance!

Avatar-Bizarre-Jareth-Costume-Female“You remind me of the babe — What babe?
The babe with the power? — What power?
The power of Voodoo — Who do?
You do — Do what?
Remind me of the babe.” – D. Bowie, Magic Dance (Labyrinth)

Jareth, the King of Goblin City, rules over the Labyrinth.  He is an imposing and magical figure, surrounded by all the fantastic creatures in the World of Labyrinth.  He has all the power he needs, commands a host of sycophantic goblin folk, and has some mad talent for singing and dancing.  Yet he lacks the thing he craves most:  The love of his life.  He sought to please her by taking away her troublesome baby brother, then offered her thirteen hours to find her way through his Labyrinth to his castle in the center of Goblin City.  He reordered time for her.  He did all she asked.  In the end, she rejected him, and he flew off as a great Barn Owl. Avatar-Bizarre-Jareth-costume-for-men

As perpetrator of Avatar Bizarre, I get my inspiration from a variety of sources, and this outfit is heavily inspired by what David Bowie wore during the Magic Dance scene.  The rigged mesh outfit comes with the standard five sizes for both men and for women, the crescent moon pendant, and a color HUD that changes the colors for both outfit and pendant separately.  The HUD gives you six colors to choose from.

AVatar-Bizarre-Jareth-Pendant
The boots for this outfit are sold separately.  There’s a male version, and a female version (male is simply larger than the female version).  The boots include a color HUD with six colors, as well as being materials enhanced.

All of this stuff is available inworld and on the marketplace.

We’re All Mad Here…How To Cheshire Cat

AB-Cheshire-Cat-IV

“But I don’t want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked.
“Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”
“How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice.
“You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have come here.”
Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

Avatar-Bizarre-Cheshire-Cat-Suit---Female

Some time ago, when yours truly was making those first tentative steps into the world of mesh, I started making a bunch of fantasy outfits inspired heavily by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and Through the Looking Glass.  The clothing line was called, “Lewis Carroll’s Fever Dreams”, and included a half dozen gender neutral outfits:  Madder Hatter, Jabberwocky, Mock Turtle, Mitternacht Hatter, and The Cheshire Cat.

These outfits were system layer creations with unrigged mesh details, for the most part.  While system layer clothing can be really well done with some spectacular texturing, I felt that eventually these outfits would need to be replaced with fully mesh options.  The system layer versions will still be available on the Marketplace, but the latest versions are slowly filtering their way into the main store location.

Leading the charge in the meshy improvements is the Cheshire Cat.  This is a tiger-striped bit of fantasy suit deliciousness, which is not only materials enhance, but it also includes a set of mesh ears.  The suit itself is available in both male, and female versions. There are seven colors to be had and, apparently, my model and I agree we both like the teal version best.

In addition to the suit, a separate pair of Cheshire Cat shoes is available.  These are unrigged, and made to fit the ankles on SLink feet, though a well placed alpha will make them look good on regular ankles, as well.

AB-Cheshire-Cat-Shoes-with-Color-HUD

The shoes come with a color HUD that includes all seven colors.  They cost 175L.  The suit (male and female) is 375L.

Whether you wish to be a part of Mr. Carroll’s fever dreams as you wander the Alice in Wonderland sims, or you simply want to be a stylish Neko (are they still a thing in Second Life?), this is a fantastic addition to any wardrobe.

All are currently available in the main store location.  Everything will be available on the Marketplace after the 23rd (basically whenever Linden Lab does the migration to VMM.

Hey Ho Let’s Go! – A Little Spizzenergi Punk Style

They’re forming in straight line

“I blame Society.  Society made me what I am…” – Duke, Repoman

And with those famous dying last words of the penultimate mohawk wearing film antogonist, I give you the Spizzenergi ensemble from Avatar Bizarre!  You too can revel in the styles of a bygone era; an era steeped in a crazy and rebellious subculture.  People listened to three chord bands, often discordant, more often than not, hardly able to play their own instruments without a sneer and flailing.  It was a time when you could change your name to Seeth Ransom or Jed Horrid, and create your own bubble of anarchy in a rancid system of broken society and failing governments.  You could dance to your favorite bands, like Dead Kennedys, New York Dolls, Dead Boys, and the Ramones.  You lamented the loss of Johnny Thunders and Sid Vicious.  You rammed safety pins in your nose and leather jacket.  You were a Punk Rocker, and Anarchy reigned supreme.

Named for a band from the late 70s/early 80s (that changed its name every year), this ensemble is 100% rigged mesh, and is available in both male and female versions.  For both genders, the pants and the tank are sold separately, and both come with a color change HUD with six choices.

The tank declares:  “PUNK’S NOT DEAD.  It was bitten by a zombie and now it wants to eat your brain.”

Want to know more?  Fine.  I’ll put on some Black Flag while you head over to the Marketplace or inworld to check things out.

With a Little Help From My Friends – The Sgt Pepper Marching Band Suit

What would you think if I sang out of tune
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I’ll sing you a song
And I’ll try not to sing out of key – With a Little Help From My Friends, The Beatles

Occasionally, the Vintage Bug will hit.  This tends to happen when I’ve got the classic rock playing on the computer.  A light bulb will pop on with a specular TING! and a EUREKA moment will occur, then suddenly I’ll be nose deep in Blender and Photoshop while feverishly pasting bits of my brain into place.  Truth to tell, this outfit wasn’t from such an epiphany.  My model, Misha (shown above, naturally), mentioned something about wanting a Sgt. Pepper outfit.

One of the perks of being a model (particularly if one is able to give some really good constructive criticism on things) is when I’m able, I’ll make what my model has asked for. Most of the ideas bandied about tend to get made sooner or later. It just depends on motivation and whatnot.

If the design looks a little familiar, you have a keen eye.  While this outfit was originally intended as you see it in this post, I did end up giving it a darker look for the World Goth Fair.  Currently, the Sgt Nemesis is still available at World Goth Fair (and in the main store, just in case the event is too packed to enter).  The Sgt Pepper version is lighter and brighter, and includes epaulettes, which are my nemesis (hah).  As with Sgt Nemesis, this is available for male and female avatars.  Each has five sizes, is materials enhanced, and the demo is free.  Though the demo texture is actually a Sgt Nemesis color, you should get the drift.  If you still need to see the suit on an actual avatar, feel free to ping me in the afternoons slt.  If I’m available (IE: near my computer), I’ll be happy to model the outfit for you…at least the male version.

World Goth Fair – I Feel An Animal Deep Inside…

 Grabilla screen capture:

Hello, Darklings!
World Goth Fair (located here) is now OPEN!  For the next couple of weeks, you can get your serious Goth on with dozens of fantastic Goth merchants, a wonderful Stygian-Dark sim, and some great music as only a bunch of Goth DJs can inflict upon the huddled masses.

As mentioned earlier, Avatar Bizarre is thrilled to be a part of this amazing event in Second Life.  Several new items have been released for the fair, including the Dragonskin Coat shown in the photos.

The Dragonskin Coat, which is rigged mesh, and available for both men and women, is materials enhanced and comes with a color change HUD.  I would recommend getting your hands on this wonderfully vampiric coat, made from the finest pixelated dragon skin.  It’s well known that Gothic dragons are chameleonic in nature, so naturally a coat made from the skin of the dragon can change colors on demand..

 Grabilla screen capture:

In addition to the Dragonskin Coat, you will find the Sgt. Nemesis Marching Band uniform (in male and female versions), and the Arachne Jumpsuit (female only).  More pictures to come as your humble narrator wanders the sim in search of darkness and glory.

I’m Here to Kick Ass and Chew Bubblegum…and I’m All Out of Bubblegum

https://i1.wp.com/i.gyazo.com/80a9cc068beb20672826e1de80995985.jpg

Leave it to Misha to spur me into action when it comes to making armor for the distaff in Second Life.  Okay, so it only took me a month and a half to get on the stick and actually make it, but hey, sometimes you have to get up the nerve to outfit someone with big swords like this.

There’s an absolute truism in Second Life:  Avatars tend to be Way Too Tall.  Like abnormally Wookiee tall.  Heck, they’d probably dwarf Peter Mayhew in real life, and I know for a fact that man stands over seven feet tall.  I’ve met him in all of his morose grumpiness.  He’s the kind of guy you walk up to and say, “How’s the weather up there?” and then you get your butt kicked into next Tuesday.  But I digress…

Second Life is full of really tall, generally disproportionate avatars.  You can really run the gamut of shapes, from massive buttshelves to eight foot tall pin-headed galoots.  Speaking of which, Misha told a story about the day she went shopping for swords and was confronted by such a galoot.  Misha, if you don’t know, is a midget in Second Life terms.  Like me, she stands at a paltry six foot three or four.  Tiny.  Miniscule.  However, she is also very much shaped in a pleasing way, and likely attracts the attention of many a galoot.  However, for some reason, galoots have this tendency to believe that it’s okay to try to intimidate those who are perceived as smaller and weaker than they are.  The problem for these guys is they usually have brains to match their pin-heads, so it’s pretty amusing to put them in their place with a well aimed comment, even if there isn’t much sport in it.

With permission (I hope…Misha will probably get a kick out this me quoting her here) let’s relive the shopping experience, shall we?  Names have been changed to protect the innocent.

XXX: smiles, aren’t you too pretty and tiny to be looking at swords?
Misha Selene: No, apparently I need a backup weapon to gut you with…

It really makes you inordinately proud.

So all of this is just a long-winded way of saying, “Hey, look at this new armor!”  It will, hopefully, be debuted at Fantasy Fair.  It’s typical:  Standard sizing, materials enhanced.  It comes with rigged pants, corset, and chainmail shirt, along with unrigged shoulder, arm, wrist, thigh, and shin guards, plus a cloak with a hood (combination of unrigged mesh and flexi prims).  The boots are from the Avatar Bizarre Panzermensch collection, but I’m sure at some point before the fair I’ll be making a pair of boots for this as well.  So yeah, stay tuned and all that.  Oh yeah, and there’s a few colors available (pants, corset, and cloak).
