World Goth Fair and the Sophie Lancaster Foundation

In 2007 Sophie Lancaster and her friend Rob were attacked and killed in Lancashire, England, for the way they were dressed.  Because they chose to express themselves a little differently, while harming nobody, some people took grave offense and punished these two kids in the worst way possible.  Since then, Sophie’s family has set up a charity foundation which focuses on creating respect for and understanding of subcultures in the community.  It also works closely with law enforcement and politicians to ensure people who are a part of any subculture are protected by the law.

Every year on May 22, World Goth Day slides into view, making its presence known to the world at large.

Every year in May, Cursed Events in Second Life hosts World Goth Fair.  It starts May 15 and ends June 1, and within the confines of three sims, you will find a plethora of fantastic items for sale.  The sale of many items will benefit the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.  You can get landmarks and information here: http://worldgothfair.wordpress.com/

Avatar Bizarre is thrilled to be a part of this event once again, and has a number of brand new items up for sale for the duration of the event.

For your consideration, the preview:

Inferi Eyes are mesh and come in Fullbright, glow, and normal.  These are modify and copy (unrigged), and are available in ten colors.  The Fatpack, along with three single colors will be available in our World Goth Fair Booth.  50% of the proceeds of the Fatpack will go to the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.  There is a second Fatpack for the Cracked Eyes, along with three single colors available at the fair.  All twenty sets of eyes will be available at the main store and on the Marketplace once the fair ends.

As most fairs have gachas now (those pesky “machines” where you put in money and get a random prize), WGF is no exception.  There will be a gacha area for those who wish to participate.  Avatar Bizarre will place a gacha full of Cthulhu Shoulder Pets, at 20L per play.  All gacha items are Transfer/Modify.  If you wish to bypass the gacha thing, you can purchase the whole set for 750L in the booth.  The Cthulhus in this set are Modify/Copy only.  There are fifteen in the set, and 50% of the proceeds go to the charity.

On to some more fun stuff…
There are two new partial mesh suits available in four colors each at the fair.  More colors will be available after the fair.
First up is the Mitternacht Hatter, one more outfit in Avatar Bizarre’s line of Lewis Carroll Fever Dreams.  Please try the demo before you buy.  Demos are always free, and transfer.

Finally, we have a spectacular new suit inspired by the song “Panzermensch” by And One.  It’s available in four colors at the fair, with more colors coming after the fair.  This is another partial mesh suit.

World Goth Fair Goodies Coming Soon!

It’s that time of year again; that auspicious month of May, when the Goths come out in force to raise money for the Sophie Lancaster Foundation in Second Life and in Real Life.  Starting in May, the World Goth Fair will feature dozens of excellent merchants across three sims, each providing wares to help raise money for the charity. Avatar Bizarre is happy to once again be included in this event, and will be debuting some brand new items, plus a gacha item.  A portion of each gacha sale will go to the charity, plus a few choice items will also contribute, so stay tuned!

In addition to the stuff you can buy, there will be live DJs, all kinds of music, and a fair bit of gothy shenanigans.  Gothika will be selling licensed band items in a series of gachas, with proceeds going to the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.  At the moment the band list is formidable and awesome, but given how it went last year, there may be even more added to this year’s list.

So on to the nitty gritty here.  Avatar Bizarre has come up with a couple of nifty new items for the fair, and will only be available at the fair for the duration.  Once the fair ends, you will be able to get this stuff at the inworld store location, as well as on the Marketplace.

The first item on the To Be Released list is a new set of mesh eyes.  Each set contains a system eye layer, and mesh eyes in normal, fullbright, and glow.  All eyes are modify and copy.

In Roman legend, the Inferi were a collective of shadowy deities who were associated with death and the underworld. The Inferi represent the gods dark and horrifying nature.

https://i0.wp.com/grabilla.com/04414-79cf473f-82bf-4b2f-877c-75e51bb8d310.png

Inferi Eyes hearken back to dark times, reflecting a human skull in the pupil, and resplendent in ten Stygian colors, including Hazel, pictured above.

Next, we encounter the Cracked Eyes.  A porcelain finish gives these eyes the illusion of having been fired in a kiln.  The brushed on irises sit in the center of a luster of cracked glaze.  Ten colors shine with an antique china polish.

And just for good measure, and because I don’t want to reveal everything at once, there’s the elusive Headalopod, coming soon to a Gacha near you!

https://i0.wp.com/grabilla.com/04414-c75480eb-a321-4b26-bf01-4cff1bdc8227.png

The Headalopod is the latest in fashionable Mollusk noggin wear for the discerning Second Life avatar.  Spawned entirely from mesh, this little creature clings happily to your skull in a variety of different colors.  Don’t let the vacant stare fool you.  This creature spends much of its time plotting ways to over throw the human race.  I, for one, will soon welcome our new Octopus Overlords.

Twisted Hunt – March 1-31

https://i0.wp.com/grabilla.com/04301-da9f00bc-e736-4041-98a9-3e1eb992489c.png

The Twisted Hunt is now upon us.  If you are unfamiliar with this event, it is the hardest hunt on the grid.  This is not a boast.  It is rock solid fact.  However, in spite of the difficulty of having hunt items moving constantly, a lack of a hint blog (you have to get hints through the group chat), and as many invisible decoys as you can eat, merchants and the organizers make this one of the most fun. In addition to the many fine gifts you can find in the normal part of the hunt, a lot of merchants give out extra gifts in their decoy boxes, put out gachas, have lots of sales, and go the extra mile with various games and mazes and mini hunts as well.  If you’re in the mood for a bit of grid hopping, this is definitely a solid and fun event with a fun group of people in the group helping each other out.

When you start the hunt, you are probably going to be OCD about it and go from the beginning to the endgame in order.  This works really well, but you can also skip around, if you find yourself having difficulty finding various items at first.  Don’t ever despair if you can’t find an item because chances are that item is going to find a new location at some point during the hunt.  They usually do.

If you do wish to start at the very beginning, the Twisted Headquarters is located here.  There are some fun gifts set out there, as well as hunt instructions, urls, and everything you might need to make your life a bit easier (or harder, as the case may be).

As you might have guessed by the picture heading this blog post, the item you need to find is a Hellraiser Puzzle Box.  It will be Eggplant colored (or Aubergine, if you’re bent that way).  For the color-impaired, that’s a kind of purple concoction.  The box will be spinning.  It will have edges.  Use hints to find it, or just try to find it on your own.  It’s recommended that you don’t use area search or wireframe.  These methods will only lead to tears of frustration.

Avatar Bizarre is happy to be a long-time sponsor and quarter organizer of this event.  It is the 2nd stop on the official hunt docket, and you will not only find a male and a female gift (eventually), but there are also many, many gachas.  IN addition to the gachas, there is a traditional limited edition shoulder pet cthulhu available for 50L.  It will only be available for the duration of the hunt.

If you’d like to see some of the hunt gifts blogged, Shadowed Darkfury is providing some bloggishness for everyone.

The Twisted Hunt runs March 1-31, has 105 stores participating, plus the endgame with all of its goodies.  Good luck!

Because Dragon – Twisted Hunt “Magick” starts March 1

You may or may not be aware that the Twisted Hunt is currently lurking in a dark corner, waiting to spring itself on people starting March 1.  This hunt, without a doubt and immodest about it, is the most difficult hunt on the grid.  If you are planning to hunt, and you expect to find the item (a Hellraiser style Lament textured cube, probably spinning, most likely purple or invisible…who knows?) in under a minute, then you are sadly mistaken.

Merchants are allowed up to ten visible decoys.  However, and let me stress this point, they are also allowed as many invisible (read stuck inside walls, floors, or otherwise not visible to the naked eye unless you are cheating) decoys as they want.  This includes renaming bits and bobs to match that of the actual item.  Good news, though!  If you don’t use wireframe and/or area search, you will likely find the box a bit faster.  After all, though merchants are not required to give hints, many do.

It is advisable to join the hunt group, as tireless volunteers give out the latest hints from the various locations.  There is really no hard and fast rule to the hints, apart from the fact that they can change daily (or more than once a day) as merchants move their items.  Most of the time, things get moved if someone blurts out the location in local chat or in the group chat.  Don’t do it.  Merchants and the organizers (of which I am one) get cranky and bitey.

The hunt is worth the hassle to most people, as often decoys will contain fun little gifts, or stores will put up their own instore mazes with lots of extra gifts scattered around.  There’s also the amazing and frustratingly evil End Game which, once conquered, gives you a whole pile of extra gifts, plus a “Twisted Survivor” tag, which many people wear with gloating pride.

But wait, there’s more!  In addition to all the fantastic gifts hidden across the grid, stores are encouraged to participate with gachas!

If you’ve been living under a virtual rock in the shopping and fashion world of Second Life, a gacha is rather like one of those gumball prize machines where you stick in a coin and get a fun random prize.  Gachas usually contain a variety of fun prizes for chump change (generally around 10L – 50L per play).  Most of the time, these items are transferable, so you can trade, sell, or give away any extra versions of things you get.  But wait, there’s more!  Gachas usually contain rare prizes, and some even have ULTRA RARE prizes!  Oh yes, they are addictive.

https://i0.wp.com/grabilla.com/0420d-42dc8fc2-7264-4270-8b56-8732e2dc898d.png

Funnily enough, Avatar Bizarre, which is a notoriously evil participant in the Twisted Hunt (in spite of giving copious bread crumb trails straight to the hunt item) will have two special gachas set up in time for Twisted.  The first gacha will be the “Chinese Dragon Shoulder Pet” collection; a mass of 21 different mesh Chinese shoulder dragons.  There are several rares, and three hidden Ultra Rares (Smission, Pyroclast, and Tyger).

As if that weren’t enough, there are seven gachas all sitting in the front of the store containing everything from boots to avatars, and all between 15L – 50L per play.

Stay tuned for a sneak preview of the actual gifts:  A lovely purple gown for the women, and a formal suit inspired by Dressage for the men.  Both are partial mesh.

One…two…three…GACHA!

Gacha, a virtual gumball machine with reasonably inexpensive prizes that can be traded, given away, or sold in virtual yardsales, are still all the rage in Second Life.

Avatar Bizarre currently sports seven Gacha machines at the front of the store, containing various bits of nifty in the form of boots, wings, avatars, shoulder pets, eyes, and even clown pants.  They’re fun little machines, these Gachas.  You put in your 15L, 25L, or 50L, depending on the cost, and you get that random prize.  But, like the drug store prizes machines of the ’70s and ’80s (or even the laundromat machines sporadically placed across the country), there is always a rare prize or two you spend hours and hours tying to get.  The deal is you usually end up with about a dozen of the common items before you finally get that gold plated shiny sticker or whatever it may be.

In Second Life Gacha, the rare prizes are more likely to be a special color of something, or just a random something among a sea of same somethings.

https://i1.wp.com/grabilla.com/04117-7beed8d3-227b-44e7-9d05-762fd9c5f7e6.png

The first of the new Gacha collectibles at Avatar Bizarre is the Magick Wings collection.  These are mesh, and semi-transparent with a bit of glow for that other-worldly ethereal quality that is so prevalent in the world of Faerie (or whatever).  The Dragonfly wings come in eight colors with two rare; and the Luna Moth wings are available in ten colors with three rare sets.  The good news is these are unrigged, so they can be resized, even to Petite Mesh avatar size.  They are low LI, which means they should be low lag and load pretty quick, even on slow machines.

The Dragonfly wings are one piece.  The Luna Moth wings, on the other hand, where uploaded separately, so if you right click them, hit EDIT>Linked Parts, and click on one of the wings, you can move the wings around to whatever position you want.  In fact, the Rare Verigated version comes with closed wings by default.

The second set of Gacha items has not yet been released, but it’s pretty fun.  Avatar Bizarre is about to release a set of Magick Familiar Shoulder Pets.  These are cats that sit on your shoulder, and each is wearing a coordinating wizard’s hat.  If you want the hat separate, they are easily removed.  Click on your critter when you’ve rezzed it on the ground (entire thing is 16 LI) then hit Ctrl (or Command if you’re on a Mac) L and that will unlike the hat from the cat.  The cat itself is 6 LI.

The cats are all available in 11 Colors with the three rares being Purple Tabby, Rainbow Tabby, and Calico.  These little beauties sit on your right shoulder with a tail that curves slightly around your shoulder blades.  Unrigged, these can be sized up or down, depending on what you plan to do with them.  They will likely be released as a Gacha during the March 1-31 Twisted Hunt.

Collect them all!

And stay tuned for more as things ramp up for the next couple of events in Second Life.

All Gachas are to be found at the main store location.

Vernian Process – Gothmas by Gaslight Gacha Sneak Preview

It never hurts to be prepared and, in the event of the Second Life Gacha crowd, it’s never too early to start thinking about what to put into a Christmas Gacha machine.  If you are unaware of the ubiquitous Gacha in Second Life, think of it as a sort of old-style drug store gumball prize machine.  You put in a quarter, and you get a random prize.  Sometimes, if you were a kid like me, you’d spend a good bit of your meager allowance trying to get that one prize you coveted; the one prize that never seemed to drop out of the chute, no matter how many quarters you dropped into the coin slot.  Yet, this prize would taunt you from a board in the glass face of the prize machine, urging you on, and cultivating a love of gambling that may follow you into adulthood and Las Vegas.

If you still don’t know what I’m talking about, then I’m sad, and will now crawl into the fetal position for feeling old beyond my years.

Gothmas by Gaslight is a shopping event in Second Life.  It started off as a hunt, where people would search for hours to find various hunt objects hidden in stores across the grid.  But, as hunts have become a little passe, and more than a huge nightmare for organizers, the powers that be turned Gothmas by Gaslight into something much, much better.

Every year, the Cursed sim prepares itself for this wondrous event.  Merchants sign up to have that special spot in the sim where they can hawk their wares.  Of course, those wares include the insidious Gacha.

Avatar Bizarre is happy to announce a sneak preview of ten pairs of boots in jeweled Gothic hues, to be placed in the Gacha, and sold for 25L per play.  The Vernian Boots are transfer, so if you end up with a dozen pairs of green boots, you can trade them for other things with folks, give them to a best friend, or even sell them at a Second Life yard sale.  Whatever you end up doing with your new leather SteamGoth Boots of Awesome, I hope you like them.  A lot.

As Christmas marches inexorably at us, ready to slap us with good cheer, peace on earth, Santa, and all that other stuff, I will be unveiling more goodies to be debuted at Gothmas by Gaslight.

Meanwhile, feel free to visit Avatar Bizarre inworld for all of your fantasy, historic, Gothic, and Lovecraftian needs.

Delirium – Twisted Hunt March 1-31

Image

Good news, everyone!  The next Twisted Hunt is almost upon us.  This hunt, running from March 1 through March 31, is the hardest and most rewarding hunt on the grid.  Yes, a lot of folks just want to do hunts for the free stuff, and that’s fine, but Twisted merchants take things a couple of steps beyond just a simple freebie hunt.

Many will set up mini-hunts, games, labyrinths, zombie fights, and all sorts of other games for the hunters.  Quite a lot of the merchants make not just one gift, but several for men and for women.  Quite a lot of them will make stuff for Petite Mesh Avatars as well!  In addition to all the fun extras and freebies you can pick up during this hunt, most of the merchants will also be supplied a Twisted Gacha for folks to get extra (transferable) goodies at a very low price.

If you aren’t familiar with the Gacha, think of it as a sort of drug store gumball machine with all sorts of fun prizes.  You pay it a small amount (usually somewhere between 1L and 50L, with 10L or 15L being most common), and you get a random prize.  Most Gacha items should be transferable, so you can trade or give away any items you get.

With that in mind, Avatar Bizarre is hard at work creating a variety of brand new Gacha items.  The eyes pictured above will be sold as separate pairs in the Gacha.  Available in five colors, each set includes normal and fullbright mesh eyes; normal, fullbright, and glow prim eyes, and a system eye White Sclera base.  They are modify so you can resize them if you need to.

The next sneak preview item to be available in the Gacha is the Micro Rar Mesh Shoulder Pet.  This little dragon will be available in several colors (each wearing something different, or nothing at all).  They will be a rare item, so you may need to try your luck several times to get the one you want.  More pictures to come as the hunt draws closer.

Image

Avatar Bizarre traditionally includes up to two dozen brand new, Twisted, and mostly exclusive to the hunt items.  Delirium Twisted will be no different.

Do you think you have what it takes to be a Twisted Survivor?  Even if Twisted seems a bit out there for you, do pop by for a chance to grab a brand new Micro Rar!
