Blogging the Bloop!

Avatar-Bizarre-Dashiki-Cthulhu
Hello, my droogs and devotchkas.  I know it’s been a dog’s age since I’ve posted.  Summer happened, and so did a fair bit of “Do I really feel like doing this” feelings.  Need more excuses?  Throw in a bit of Real Life, a head injury, and Pokemon Go, and you have a perfect storm of procrastination.

I know you’re aching to know, so I’ll tell you:  I only have to get a Porygon and a Lapras to complete the North American Pokedex.  With that out of the way, let’s get to some other points.

Sometimes, you just have to take a break, even if it’s super extended.  But Avatar Bizarre isn’t going anywhere, and neither am I.

Avatar-Bizarre-Bloop-Pants-and-Dashiki-Cthulhu

Avatar Bizarre is proud to be a part of the BOHO event in Second Life for the very first time.  For those who may be interested in Bohemian clothing, or even hippie duds, or you just want to raid Johnny Depp’s closet, you can head over here, starting on October 21.  The BOHO event lasts till November 4, so you have a couple of weeks to head out and get the Avatar Bizarre Bloop pants and shirts collection.

The pants (available for women, as well), are priced at roughly 50% off, and include a color HUD.  These fitted pants come in solid -or- striped (sold separately), and cost 99l for the duration of the event.  There’s a nifty matching shirt (solid colors only), also with a color HUD (fitmesh) for the same price.  For men, the pants come in fitted, and simple rigged versions (rigged is “medium”).  Women’s shirt and pants come with “regular” and “hourglass” sizes.

The Dashiki Cthulhu is a shoulder pet that can be repositioned however you want.  It’s also modify and copy, so you can use it as decor, though with the shirt, it’s roughly 9LI.  Sizing up can make the LI jump a bit higher.  The critter sitting in the booth is 12LI.  Without the shirt, it is much less.

So come one, come all, and fit some Bloop to your Body.  Meanwhile, I’m making a concerted effort to stop neglecting this blog thing here.  Cheers!

A Fantasy of Fever Dreams – Zaahn Preview

Avatar-Bizarre-Zaahn-VThe lone traveler contemplated his fate.  He had been forcefully sent to a desolate and eerie island, where little made sense.  The carnival was deserted, and little wonder why.  The clown statues littering the grounds appeared sinister and dangerous.  They loomed through the mist, menacing grimaces that must have delighted once, though he doubted it.  He didn’t like clowns.  It was a trust issue; you couldn’t feel safe around a creature with a grin that wide, yet so dark and wretched inside.

Avatar-Bizarre-Zaahn-IIIThe traveler was undaunted by the menacing clown as he attempted a trick he’d learned long ago.  He was surprised to learn he still had the strength for the trick on a stack of chairs.  Still, that clown…  A trickle of cold sweat coursed down the back of his neck.  With a lurch, he tumbled off the chair and rolled away from that clown in haste.  Why are there so many clowns?  Why won’t that incessant creepy laughter die down?

Avatar-Bizarre-Zaahn-IIHe’d had enough.  He left the carnival and wandered the rest of the lonely island till he came upon a dead tree.  “How can I get off this wretched island?” he thought miserably.  “Can’t sleep.  Clowns will eat me.”

Avatar-Bizarre-Zaahn-IVThe Zaahn is Avatar Bizarre’s latest creation.  Available soon at Fantasy Faire, it includes 5 standard sizes, system layer underpants in all colors, an Omega pants applier for mesh bodies, and an alpha.  The boots are available as a separate item, and also include a color HUD with all the color options, and two sizes (male/female).  Everything has been materials enhanced for your viewing pleasure.  Zaahn will be available for men and for women.

Coming soon! Watch this space for landmarks and announcements.

A Knight of the Round Table

Avatar Bizarre Gawain for Genre 1
Looking for a nice medieval sim in Second Life when your connection has decided to go back to the 1200 BAUD days is really, really difficult.  Really, it is.  That said, one quagmire lag filled thirty minutes, then a fifteen minute hiatus from the Internet later produced this picture and blog.  You see how dedicated some people can be to this stuff?

The Gawain, named for one of King Arthur’s fine Camelot knights, is the latest outfit from Avatar Bizarre.  It features a color HUD with seven color choices (red, green, teal, blue, purple, black, and white), an Omega pants applier HUD for the various mesh bodies out there (check out the Omega blog for a list of compatible bodies), seven system layer underpants, an alpha, five sizes, and materials.  This is available for women, as well.

This will debut at Genre. As Genre is one of those super awesome shopping events where you can get deep discounts on new things, you can buy this wonderful outfit for 100L, starting March 15.  Once this round of Genre is over, the price goes up.

Oh, and I almost forgot!  In addition to this outfit, there will be a pair of nifty boots at Genre for 99L (regular price is 175:).  These are brand new, made with the Gawain in mind.  They were built to go over system layers or Omega layers.  They may have a little difficulty with mesh pants.

These come with a large and a small rigged pair, along with an unrigged pair, an alpha, and a color HUD.

“I blame Society.  Society made me what I am…” – Duke, Repoman

And with those famous dying last words of the penultimate mohawk wearing film antogonist, I give you the Spizzenergi ensemble from Avatar Bizarre!  You too can revel in the styles of a bygone era; an era steeped in a crazy and rebellious subculture.  People listened to three chord bands, often discordant, more often than not, hardly able to play their own instruments without a sneer and flailing.  It was a time when you could change your name to Seeth Ransom or Jed Horrid, and create your own bubble of anarchy in a rancid system of broken society and failing governments.  You could dance to your favorite bands, like Dead Kennedys, New York Dolls, Dead Boys, and the Ramones.  You lamented the loss of Johnny Thunders and Sid Vicious.  You rammed safety pins in your nose and leather jacket.  You were a Punk Rocker, and Anarchy reigned supreme.

Named for a band from the late 70s/early 80s (that changed its name every year), this ensemble is 100% rigged mesh, and is available in both male and female versions.  For both genders, the pants and the tank are sold separately, and both come with a color change HUD with six choices.

The tank declares:  “PUNK’S NOT DEAD.  It was bitten by a zombie and now it wants to eat your brain.”

Want to know more?  Fine.  I’ll put on some Black Flag while you head over to the Marketplace or inworld to check things out.

Around the Grid in Eighty Days – or – How Phinaeus Got His Groove Back (Sneak Preview)

 Grabilla screen capture: 2015-05-27 19:29:53

One of the wonderful things about Second Life is an abundance of Science Fiction and Fantasy fans inworld building things for role play and other stuff.  When you throw together a virtual world where you can build anything you want, and a few thousand rabid fans of various genres, your imagination really is the limit, and you end up with some wonderful things to find and explore.  If you set foot in this virtual world, you could end up cavorting under the waves with mermaids, flying through the air in World War I Sopwith Camels and Fokker Triplanes, running with dragons at Avaria, or you could even end up on the deck of a Steampunk Dirigible in Caledon.

Of course if one ends up in the Steamlands, one must be properly attired.  To the layman, if you just slap a few gears on something, you can call it “Steampunk”, but the genre goes much, much deeper than that.  Steampunk rose from the World of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells in the 19th century.  Loosely based in Victorian times, Steampunk is the science and the imagination of that era.  From the mighty flying dirigible to the whimsical fighting trousers, Steampunk encompasses a vast range of wearable doo dads and clothing, in addition to some spectacular vehicles and buildings.

For Steampunk clothing, you can’t go wrong with a frock coat and pin striped pants, or a corset and puffed sleeve gown.  Add a pair of goggles and some clockwork jewelry and you’re well on your way to immersing yourself in a wonderful whimsy of imagination.  Let your flight of fancy begin…!

“But Mr. Eel,” you might say, “What’s up with this Phinaeus character in your blog title?  Wasn’t the hero in Around the World in Eighty Days called Phileas?”  Well, you do have a keen eye and a great memory for literature.  The thing is, I actually kind of forgot this till the suit was already made and Phinaeus was already mired in my brain.  Plus it turns out there’s a King Phineus in Greek Mythology, who appeared in the voyages of the Argonauts.  So I mixed up my literature a bit…the suit’s still pretty cool!

The Phinaeus is a classically styled psuedo Victorian suit, made from the finest virtual velvet and delicately stitched and rigged to fit the most stalwart male avatar.  It’s available in five sizes and several colors.  The suit is all one piece and includes the coat, waistcoat, turtleneck, and pants.  The finely detailed frock coat is beautifully accessorized with a silver chain.  Not shown here, because I hadn’t uploaded it when the pictures were taken, is a wonderful tall top hat, which is one part Mad Hatter and two parts Wide Bell Top Hat.  For a little extra flavor, this outfit has been materials enhanced.

This suit is perfect for Steampunks, Goths, Vampires, or whoever wishes to include a classic dark almost-Victorian flare to their wardrobe.  The cost is 450L and includes the hat.  Shoes are not included.

A bit after the release date, the jacket/waistcoat combo will be available as a standalone garment, with a color HUD that includes all the Phinaeus colors.  TBA.

Available NOW on the marketplace and inworld at Avatar Bizarre.

Edit:
This top hat comes with the suit.  The goggle lenses have a touch menu to change the color.

On the Road of Silk – The Dhoti Pants

https://i2.wp.com/i.grab.la/05511-bc37a843-ffd8-4e1b-bf5f-34c326003230.png

In a moment of synchronicity (no, not the excellent final album from The Police), I decided to start making some Dhoti pants for the store.  Then two weeks after I received a note card from someone, I happened to open it up and read that they were looking for Dhoti pants.  They had run across the Dhoti and Kurta set I had made some time ago, and really wanted just the pants on their own.

What a wonderful coincidence!  Just as the male version of the pants had been modeled and rigged in Blender, I contacted the person who sent the note card, and let them know I was going to have a working pair of pants in a couple of days.  As it turns out, they were thrilled because they were setting up a wedding in Second Life and all the Groomsmen needed black Dhoti pants.  Sometimes things have a strange way of working out.

 Grabilla screen capture:

The Avatar Bizarre Dhoti Pants, currently available for male avatars only, comes in seven colors, and is materials enhanced.  The silk material has a slight sheen to it, and the dangly bits on the left hip can be detached, if those aren’t your style.  There’s a demo available, as well.  So try on a pair and see how they fit!

The dhoti, also known as veshti, mundu, pancha or mardani, is a traditional men’s garment worn in the Indian subcontinent (a region known in ancient times as Bharatvarsha).  While it’s traditionally a single piece, wrapped around the body like a loin cloth, it can also be a pant, generally baggy or pleated, and tied at the hip.  It can be worn with a Kurta.  The item shown in the pictures above looked pretty good on their own.

Available now on the Marketplace and Inworld.

How Many Licks Does It Take to Get To the Center of the Labyrinth?

https://i2.wp.com/i.gyazo.com/d2aac645b90bdb600cf44be8e314d6a4.jpg

My friends all know I have a borderline stalkerish admiration for David Bowie.  Every time he’s visited my area for a show, I’ve gone.  Sometimes multiple times for the same tour.  The music collection includes something like 800+ songs – versions and reversions, covers and originals, live and studio…legitimate and bootleg recordings of all things Bowie.  Heck, there’s even some Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, and Mott the Hoople in the mix for good measure.  Then there’s the fact that Bowie’s appearance in Zoolander makes me giggle every time I see it.  But then, I laugh like a little kid at Family Guy, but I digress…

In short, I consider David Bowie to be a demigod of some sort, and possibly an alien with photogenic superpowers.

So it should come as no surprise that some of the designs at Avatar Bizarre should be pretty heavily influenced by Mr. Bowie’s extensive wardrobe.

So, without further ado, and with much aplomb, I give you an advance look at the Goblin King!  This is a rigged mesh outfit, which consists of jacket and pants.  The boots are from the Panzermensch collection at Avatar Bizarre, but I have no doubt that quite a few tall boots should work pretty well with the pants.  And here’s the really good news:  If you don’t want the entire outfit, the pants and the jacket will be sold separately, just in case you want one or the other, but not both.  In even better news, for my female friends at least, there is also a women’s version available.  So you can put down those pitchforks and torches.  The lynching is completely unnecessary, I assure you!

The pants/jacket combo will be available in seven colors, and include an alpha for both pieces, plus full perm alpha textures just in case you want to work on your own set of alphas.  Standard sizing applies, and there will be a demo available.  Oh and lest I forget, it’s all materials enhanced, so yeah.  There’s that too.

Now for the bummer news:  This outfit will debut at Fantasy Fair in Second Life (which starts in April), unless I don’t get in, in which case it will be released my mainstore location and on the Marketplace in April.

Pictures of the female version will be posted here as soon as things are textured, and my model becomes available to pose for pictures.

A Taste of Japan – A Short Kimono

https://i0.wp.com/grabilla.com/04615-92eb7eaf-0283-4556-ba38-d36c49939398.png

It’s been a bit too long between blog posts here, but what with one thing and another, things just sort of slipped out of mind.  That’s all changing now, as Avatar Bizarre presents a brand new take on an older design.  In the world of Second Life, there are a lot of possibilities for creating a dynamic and spectacular look for your avatar, because so many designers come up with a plethora of pieces in which to adorn oneself.  As Avatar Bizarre has always been a purveyor of fine traditional clothing, in addition to fantasy, Gothic, historic, and casual clothing, mainly for the male avatar, it was time to reintroduce the short Kimono for men.

Originally made in system layer clothing, with some flexi prims for the bottom of the jacket and the ties on the sash, this outfit has been updated in fine rigged mesh.  Inspired by the short Kimonos from real life men’s fashion, this is 100% original rigged mesh.  The pants and Kimono jacket are separate pieces so they can be worn singly, or together, as you see fit.  There are three alphas provided; one for the pants, one for the jacket, and one to mask both areas of the body to ensure a perfect fit for just about any avatar.  Of course, this outfit comes in the standard male sizes to ensure and even greater fit.
https://i0.wp.com/grabilla.com/04615-d8e0fba2-72fc-4950-a669-63ef36a89174.png

The Kimono comes in eight colors:  Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Teal, Blue, Purple, and White.

So whether you plan to lounge around Second Life in full Hugh Hefner style, or relax after a hard day of showing off your mad Ninja skills, this outfit will be just the thing to add a bit of Japanese inspired awesomeness to your wardrobe.

May fit full sized custom mesh avatars.  Please try the demo first.

Available on the marketplace and inworld.

Killer Klown…pants – Another Twisted Exclusive

Image

I have an intense fear of clowns.  No, really, I do.  Supposedly the best way to conquer an irrational fear is to confront it.  As the Twisted Hunt theme this time is Carnival, it made sense to make something clownish.  Although, if you really use your imagination, clown pants can simply be Harpo Marx pants.  And that’s okay,

The Clown Pants are available in ten colors, and will be Modify/Transfer, because they are a part of the Gacha ensemble of goodies coming out on September 1.  They are rigged mesh, and should be One Size Fits Most.  They are extra big in all aspects, and should fit female avatars as well as male avatars.  There’s an alpha included to cover up some inner leg issues, and the suspenders actually stand out from the chest quite a way, so should accommodate breasts and overly large male chests.

These pants work extraordinarily well with a nice tux style shirt and white gloves, as you can see.  The hat worn in the picture is not included.  It’s actually from the Gothic Harker Tux (purple), which will be available at Horrorfest for the first time.

I suppose I’d better let you know what’s included in your Clown Pants package, just in case it isn’t totally clear yet.  You get ONE mesh clown pant with suspenders, and one Clown Pant alpha.  The gacha prizes will cost 15L per play, and there will not only be 10 colors, but also 8 pairs of eyes, and 6 Cat Masks (2 aren’t shown on the image below), all made from mesh.

If I get a bit of time and inspiration, there may be more items in the gacha, but for now, the above items are the only currently planned.

Anarchy in the SL!

Image

It isn’t typical for Avatar Bizarre to post more than one blog article in a week, but this time there’s Punk Rock in the air.  I was just too excited about the release of the Oi! Punk Pants (rigged mesh), that I couldn’t wait another week to tell you folks about them.

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away (or maybe in your own backyard), there was born a movement.  This movement gave us simple, sarcastic, and often-times, angry music from Mohawk coiffed young people.  They rallied against oppressive government, the establishment, Disco, and Hippies.  Pretty much in that order.  Punk slammed into the music scene, bludgeoning us over the head with blunt bands like Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, New York Dolls, Oi Polloi, and a whole lot more.  As the infectious music caused Grievous Bodily Harm and various aural trauma, the style shown by Punk’s erstwhile members was a sight to behold.

Jackets dripped with zippers and band buttons, pants were plaid, and Safety pins were liberally applied!

Avatar Bizarre is thrilled to present the Oi! Punk Pants as a tribute to that bygone era when men were men, women were women, and the Status Quo quaked in fright at the Young People™ in Mohawks and Liberty spikes.

These pants are available in Red Plaid, Red Stripes, Blue Plaid, Blue Stripes, Green Stripes, Purple Stripes, White Plaid, and White Stripes.  Each package includes five sizes, and an alpha layer.

OI! You lot.  Look for these on the Marketplace or Inworld at the main location.  Don’t forget to try the DEMO first.Image
