Just when you thought it was safe…

There’s recently been a rash of Old God infestations in Second Life.  The Crawling Chaos, also known as Nyarlathotep, the bringer of madness and harbinger of doom, has spawned.  Its offspring are agile, and have a driving need for insanity to follow in their wake.

These horrible creatures are known to sit on your shoulder and whisper words of chaos and discord into the minds of men.  Even the strongest of us have fallen prey to their mindnumbing terror.

Avatar Bizarre’s lone perpetrator is fully responsible for unleashing these horrid beasts upon the unsuspecting populace.

https://i0.wp.com/i.gyazo.com/894e93dc162b152543ae3d7e491ac6d7.png

The Nyarlathotep pets are currently available in two installments:  A Head Crawler (cost 100L), and a Head Sitter and Shoulder Sitter combination (cost 200L).  These guys come with a color HUD that includes nine color options.  They are copy and modify, and materials enhanced to bring out their inherent sliminess.

For the more adventurous among you mortals, the Head Sitter and Shoulder Sitter will be available as separate colors (Transfer and Modify) in a gacha, come Twisted Hunt time.  The cost will be 15L per play.  There will be no rares, for this creature demands its minions to supplicate themselves with all colors at all times.

Do not be afraid.  Do not be frightened.  Be TERRIFIED!

Lovecraft’s Wake and other animals

Holy cow, I’ve let this blog sit stagnant for a month.  Bad, Sred.  Bad, bad, bad!

Well, hello there, folks.  After a bit of a prolonged absence from this blog thing, I’m back with some vital information for my faithful readers, droogs and devotchkas.

Lovecraft's Wake

The first thing I want to alert you on is this event in Second Life that Faeryfox Beth, Sirius Farspire and I are attempting.  It’s a fun little event called The Lovecraft Wake, and it will be held roughly around H.P.Lovecraft’s Death Day.  It’s a Wake, get it?  Anyhow, I want to get some stuff straightened out right now.

The first thing is that we are in no way affiliated with the organizers of LoveFest.  Let’s put that to bed right now.  This is a small event, which will be held in the Dunwich Lovecraft Sim, and will not only feature a number of fine merchants hawking their Lovecraftian wares, but we will also have several DJ dance parties, horror readings, and OH so much more.  The Official Blog is here.  We still have room for a few more merchants, so feel free to apply.  There’s no booth fee, but we are providing vendors and gachas, which will take a 10% cut to cover expenses and to help out with the cost of the sim.

The second thing I wanted to tell you about is the fun little chotchkies I’ve put together.

https://i1.wp.com/i.gyazo.com/ded33ea324a65542a77774cca6321e3c.png

Here, we have a fun little mesh shoulder Cthulhu.  He’s copy and modify, and comes with a color HUD with ten color options!  This is a great little wearable for the Cthulhu fan in your life.  Just beware, for he will whisper sweet evils in your ear.

The Chinese Shoulder Dragon comes in three different options:  Metal and Earth colors, Fire and Sky colors, and Water and Air colors.  Like the Cthulhu above, these guys come with a color HUD.  Each dragon comes with seven color options in the HUD, and are copy/modify.

Aetheraptor Wings are also supplied with a color HUD and include seven color options.  These are unrigged mesh wings.  They do not flex, but they look pretty good, don’t you think?

All three items have been materials enhanced for your viewing pleasure.  All are available on the marketplace and inworld at the Main Store location.

Stay tuned.  I think I see the Twisted Hunt lurking behind the sofa.  We’ll talk more about that later…

Elves Wear Cloaks and Does Eat Oats, and Little Snakes a Flutter

https://i2.wp.com/grabilla.com/0440f-2e98e4b6-1396-4f72-b717-45eb50a92d19.png

It’s been a busy couple of weeks at Avatar Bizarre, what with the new store design, a number of events demanding my attention, and a bunch of new releases!  The line-up of new releases, though long by new release standards, is also oddly varied.  Not only do you get a glimpse of the Elven Pirate Cloak (pictured above), but some Flutter Snakes have been unleashed, along with two different sets of eyes.  Everything is either all or mostly mesh.  All of the stuff is pretty fun, and hopefully will make your shopping trips that much more fun.

The Elven Pirate Cloak is available in six colors.  Each package includes a red-lined cloak, and a silver-lined cloak.  The cowl and shoulder pieces are unrigged mesh, which can be resized as needed.  The cloak itself is traditional flexi prims, simply because a cloak should flow, and it’s pretty hard to get mesh to swing around like a proper cloak should.  Originally, this item was informally suggested to me around Halloween, but I was having some issues trying to get the rigging to work.  Then I got smart and decided not to rig it at all, and it just sort of came together.   Each cloak is 120L, modify and copy.  Available inworld at the moment.  Soon to appear on the Second Life Marketplace.

But wait, there’s more!

Enter the Flutter Snake!  This little guy was inspired by Alan Dean Foster’s character Pip the Alaspinian Minidrag from the Midworld Series.  In the series, Pip was a flying telepathic venomous serpent.  The Flutter Snake, while winged and reptilian, is far from venomous.  In fact, the three species represented:  Boa, Python, and King Snake, are all non-venomous.  And unless they’re not telling me everything, these guys are not telepathic.  They are, however, delightful, colorful, and cute in a serpentine way.  Each snake drapes carelessly across your shoulders.  These guys are modify, so they can be sized up or down.  There’s a bunch of colors to choose from, so head on over and have a look!

The Rainbow Boa, of course, is inspired by the real life Pip (she’s my girl).

Then there are eyeballs.  Oh, lots of eyeballs.  The nice thing about the latest eye releases at Avatar Bizarre is though they come in three meshes (normal, full bright, and glow), there’s also a traditional system eye for those folks who prefer it.

The Saralonde Eyes feature a dragon in flight reflected in the pupil, and are available in nine colors, plus a fat pack of all colors.  Cost is 75L each, or 600L for the fat pack.

The Lorelei Eyes, named for a song by the Cocteau Twins, are available in ten colors including the highly unusual Torley Linden inspired “Watermelon”, pictured below.

I hope I haven’t overwhelmed you all, but this week is pretty exciting, and more is coming for World Goth Fair in May!  Stay Tuned.

Snakes Alive

A few years ago, I really got into reading anything I could get from Alan Dean Foster.  His novels are a fun read; imaginative, fast-paced and, in a lot of cases, just good light-hearted fun.  He’s written a lot of Science Fiction and Fantasy, including a series called Midworld, which takes place in a Commonwealth of planets in some distant galaxy.  The protagonist is a red head named Flynx, who has a friend named Pip, who happens to be a flying telepathic venomous snake creature.  In the novels she’s called an Alaspinian Minidrag.  I loved the character so much that I named my Brazilian Rainbow Boa after her.  Pip did eventually meet Mr. Foster at a convention when she was about half grown, and that’s where I learned he’s a big snake fan.  I knew he was a kindred spirit!

Then along came Second Life, and the ability to build whatever we want.  Imaginations soar, and fantasies come to life.  Well as much as they can come to life in a virtual Internet 3D platform.  As I learned to build things, I built some flying snakes using regular prims and sculpties.  They were a homage to Alan Dean Foster and his Midworld series character.  Initially I called them “Alaspinian MInidrags”.  A short time later, Mr. Foster emailed me asking that I change the name.  See, that name is licensed, he reasoned.  While I’d love to let you use the name, you really have to pay for the right.  No problem, I say.  I’m just a huge fan and wanted to make something as a homage, but you’re a cool dude and I have zero reason to antagonize you, my friend.

So the shoulder pets I had made became flying snakes.  I made a few different varieties along the way including a Rainbow Boa, a Mexican Black King Snake, and others.  They sold reasonably well, and Second Life gained some cute reptilian shoulder pets.

Then Mesh happened.  I really wanted to redesign the flying snakes, so I set about creating the new Flutter Snakes.  These little critters are 100% original mesh, and modify/copy so you can resize them to fit your shoulders.  They will be available in several varieties including milksnake, boa, and python.  I hope to debut them at Fantasy Fair this year in Second Life (May, 2014).

Because Dragon – Twisted Hunt “Magick” starts March 1

You may or may not be aware that the Twisted Hunt is currently lurking in a dark corner, waiting to spring itself on people starting March 1.  This hunt, without a doubt and immodest about it, is the most difficult hunt on the grid.  If you are planning to hunt, and you expect to find the item (a Hellraiser style Lament textured cube, probably spinning, most likely purple or invisible…who knows?) in under a minute, then you are sadly mistaken.

Merchants are allowed up to ten visible decoys.  However, and let me stress this point, they are also allowed as many invisible (read stuck inside walls, floors, or otherwise not visible to the naked eye unless you are cheating) decoys as they want.  This includes renaming bits and bobs to match that of the actual item.  Good news, though!  If you don’t use wireframe and/or area search, you will likely find the box a bit faster.  After all, though merchants are not required to give hints, many do.

It is advisable to join the hunt group, as tireless volunteers give out the latest hints from the various locations.  There is really no hard and fast rule to the hints, apart from the fact that they can change daily (or more than once a day) as merchants move their items.  Most of the time, things get moved if someone blurts out the location in local chat or in the group chat.  Don’t do it.  Merchants and the organizers (of which I am one) get cranky and bitey.

The hunt is worth the hassle to most people, as often decoys will contain fun little gifts, or stores will put up their own instore mazes with lots of extra gifts scattered around.  There’s also the amazing and frustratingly evil End Game which, once conquered, gives you a whole pile of extra gifts, plus a “Twisted Survivor” tag, which many people wear with gloating pride.

But wait, there’s more!  In addition to all the fantastic gifts hidden across the grid, stores are encouraged to participate with gachas!

If you’ve been living under a virtual rock in the shopping and fashion world of Second Life, a gacha is rather like one of those gumball prize machines where you stick in a coin and get a fun random prize.  Gachas usually contain a variety of fun prizes for chump change (generally around 10L – 50L per play).  Most of the time, these items are transferable, so you can trade, sell, or give away any extra versions of things you get.  But wait, there’s more!  Gachas usually contain rare prizes, and some even have ULTRA RARE prizes!  Oh yes, they are addictive.

https://i2.wp.com/grabilla.com/0420d-42dc8fc2-7264-4270-8b56-8732e2dc898d.png

Funnily enough, Avatar Bizarre, which is a notoriously evil participant in the Twisted Hunt (in spite of giving copious bread crumb trails straight to the hunt item) will have two special gachas set up in time for Twisted.  The first gacha will be the “Chinese Dragon Shoulder Pet” collection; a mass of 21 different mesh Chinese shoulder dragons.  There are several rares, and three hidden Ultra Rares (Smission, Pyroclast, and Tyger).

As if that weren’t enough, there are seven gachas all sitting in the front of the store containing everything from boots to avatars, and all between 15L – 50L per play.

Stay tuned for a sneak preview of the actual gifts:  A lovely purple gown for the women, and a formal suit inspired by Dressage for the men.  Both are partial mesh.

One…two…three…GACHA!

Gacha, a virtual gumball machine with reasonably inexpensive prizes that can be traded, given away, or sold in virtual yardsales, are still all the rage in Second Life.

Avatar Bizarre currently sports seven Gacha machines at the front of the store, containing various bits of nifty in the form of boots, wings, avatars, shoulder pets, eyes, and even clown pants.  They’re fun little machines, these Gachas.  You put in your 15L, 25L, or 50L, depending on the cost, and you get that random prize.  But, like the drug store prizes machines of the ’70s and ’80s (or even the laundromat machines sporadically placed across the country), there is always a rare prize or two you spend hours and hours tying to get.  The deal is you usually end up with about a dozen of the common items before you finally get that gold plated shiny sticker or whatever it may be.

In Second Life Gacha, the rare prizes are more likely to be a special color of something, or just a random something among a sea of same somethings.

https://i1.wp.com/grabilla.com/04117-7beed8d3-227b-44e7-9d05-762fd9c5f7e6.png

The first of the new Gacha collectibles at Avatar Bizarre is the Magick Wings collection.  These are mesh, and semi-transparent with a bit of glow for that other-worldly ethereal quality that is so prevalent in the world of Faerie (or whatever).  The Dragonfly wings come in eight colors with two rare; and the Luna Moth wings are available in ten colors with three rare sets.  The good news is these are unrigged, so they can be resized, even to Petite Mesh avatar size.  They are low LI, which means they should be low lag and load pretty quick, even on slow machines.

The Dragonfly wings are one piece.  The Luna Moth wings, on the other hand, where uploaded separately, so if you right click them, hit EDIT>Linked Parts, and click on one of the wings, you can move the wings around to whatever position you want.  In fact, the Rare Verigated version comes with closed wings by default.

The second set of Gacha items has not yet been released, but it’s pretty fun.  Avatar Bizarre is about to release a set of Magick Familiar Shoulder Pets.  These are cats that sit on your shoulder, and each is wearing a coordinating wizard’s hat.  If you want the hat separate, they are easily removed.  Click on your critter when you’ve rezzed it on the ground (entire thing is 16 LI) then hit Ctrl (or Command if you’re on a Mac) L and that will unlike the hat from the cat.  The cat itself is 6 LI.

The cats are all available in 11 Colors with the three rares being Purple Tabby, Rainbow Tabby, and Calico.  These little beauties sit on your right shoulder with a tail that curves slightly around your shoulder blades.  Unrigged, these can be sized up or down, depending on what you plan to do with them.  They will likely be released as a Gacha during the March 1-31 Twisted Hunt.

Collect them all!

And stay tuned for more as things ramp up for the next couple of events in Second Life.

All Gachas are to be found at the main store location.

Horrorfest starts TODAY!!

Horrorfest is a Halloween themed event running October 18 through November 8, and proceeds go to the Epilepsy Therapy Project.

You can find the event here.

Beware!  You will find yourself lost in the woods, a creepy feeling pervading everywhere.  The trees reach out to you with gnarled fingers, brushing the back of your neck.  You jump when a twig snaps behind you.  Heart pounding, you slowly turn around, fearing what you will see…

What confronts you is just too horrible to imagine:  Dozens of gachas containing things that will consume your Linden balance and leave you destitute!  You will find everything from Avatars and Shoes to Eyes and Make up.

Avatar Bizarre is thrilled to be a part of this magnificent and horrifying event.  We have a gacha for eyeballs, naturally.

The rares are Black, White, and Machine.  Good luck!

In other news, there’s a booth attached to all this hulabaloo.  Once you’ve followed the gloomy path of financial destruction across a bridge or two, you will find a large building.  Proceed with caution, as you enter the foyer.  HUNDREDS OF BLOGGER EYES WILL BE UPON YOU!  Tip-toe gently through this chamber to the main floor, where you will find many, many booths full of goodies that you will want to purchase.  Avatar Bizarre’s booth is to the left of the main entrance.

Image

The two Harker Tuxedos, named for Jonathan Harker of Dracula fame, are set to give 50% of the sales proceeds to the charity.  If you buy the Jade Rock Critter avatar, the entire sale goes to the charity!

Of course, there will be other colors available for the Harker Tux after the event.

Of course, there’s a brand new Cthulhu available for you elder gods aficionados.  Meet MARROW BONES

In addition to all this merchandise goodness, there will be events and things and fun and stuff.  Stay tuned!

Delirium – Twisted Hunt March 1-31

Image

Good news, everyone!  The next Twisted Hunt is almost upon us.  This hunt, running from March 1 through March 31, is the hardest and most rewarding hunt on the grid.  Yes, a lot of folks just want to do hunts for the free stuff, and that’s fine, but Twisted merchants take things a couple of steps beyond just a simple freebie hunt.

Many will set up mini-hunts, games, labyrinths, zombie fights, and all sorts of other games for the hunters.  Quite a lot of the merchants make not just one gift, but several for men and for women.  Quite a lot of them will make stuff for Petite Mesh Avatars as well!  In addition to all the fun extras and freebies you can pick up during this hunt, most of the merchants will also be supplied a Twisted Gacha for folks to get extra (transferable) goodies at a very low price.

If you aren’t familiar with the Gacha, think of it as a sort of drug store gumball machine with all sorts of fun prizes.  You pay it a small amount (usually somewhere between 1L and 50L, with 10L or 15L being most common), and you get a random prize.  Most Gacha items should be transferable, so you can trade or give away any items you get.

With that in mind, Avatar Bizarre is hard at work creating a variety of brand new Gacha items.  The eyes pictured above will be sold as separate pairs in the Gacha.  Available in five colors, each set includes normal and fullbright mesh eyes; normal, fullbright, and glow prim eyes, and a system eye White Sclera base.  They are modify so you can resize them if you need to.

The next sneak preview item to be available in the Gacha is the Micro Rar Mesh Shoulder Pet.  This little dragon will be available in several colors (each wearing something different, or nothing at all).  They will be a rare item, so you may need to try your luck several times to get the one you want.  More pictures to come as the hunt draws closer.

Image

Avatar Bizarre traditionally includes up to two dozen brand new, Twisted, and mostly exclusive to the hunt items.  Delirium Twisted will be no different.

Do you think you have what it takes to be a Twisted Survivor?  Even if Twisted seems a bit out there for you, do pop by for a chance to grab a brand new Micro Rar!
