Medical Adult Party

Yeah, you probably don’t want to ask what Medical Adult Party means.  I arrived with an axe in my head (splitting headache, get it?), and there was the usual bevy of naughty and evil nurses, a doctor or two, and one scary looking hypodermic needle.  I enjoy these parties immensely and, as Damia is fond of saying, I do enjoy requests, the weirder the better.  I also decided to play a bunch of bands from the old CBDG OMFUG (mostly the OMFUG).  That would be “Other Music For Underground Gormandizers”.  Punk and New Wave, in other words.  It was CBGB that gave us the Talking Heads, Johnny Thunder, Blondie, The Ramones, and a whole host of other delights in the late 70s and early 80s.

Zombie Jeebuz Day

Two weeks have passed, and I’ve been really procrastinating hard.  Generally, I do try to write up the playlists the night of or the day after the gig, but what with one thing or another, things happened, people exploded, worlds were destroyed, angels wept, and the end of all civilization was brought about.  Okay, not really.  But really, I just sort of forgot.  Plus it’s bloody hot in this room right now, and it’s difficult to type when you’re eating popsicles.

Easter came and went this year with a minimum of fuss.  The traditional Cadbury Creme Egg was consumed with relish.  No, I don’t mean that stuff made with dill pickles and God knows what else.  What are you, nuts?  No way would I eat chocolate with real hot dog relish.  That’s sick.  You go now.  Anyway, Easter.  It’s one of those holidays co-opted by one religion from another, and somehow involves zombie Sons of God, hard boiled eggs, bunny rabbits, and interesting hats.  Naturally, The Village would be involved in that sort of shenanigan in the only way we know:  A wickedly good party with even more wickedly awesome music.  If you ever show up at one of these shindigs, I do like taking requests, unless you ask for a certain French Canadian chick, who happens to be into old guys and sings in movies about boats.  But I digress…

Death, Taxes, and My Birthday

Well, here’s to procrastination, everyone.  It’s Saturday, the week after the last gig, and I’m finally getting around to posting last week’s frivolity.  This is mostly due to “I dunwanna” and doing frivolous things that tire me out, like taking the lizard to the vet, going to work, and attempting to finish a dragon costume before A Clockwork Alchemy happens in the Doubletree in San Jose.  Oh the joys of not enough hours in the day.  Anyway…

Last week was a combination of Death, Taxes, and My Birthday.  I’m not sure people really knew how to react to the first two, but a few folks came out to help me celebrate my birthday a bit early.  You see, I had atrocious timing as a baby, and was born the day after the I.R.S. demands certain ritual sacrifice for monetary gain.  The set started out more or less with a synthpop feel and ended up in some other direction, mostly because like Internet Forum posts, a non-genre party just never stays much on topic.  All I can do is attempt to make these songs flow into each other nicely, rather than as patches of Rumble Strips on the freeway shoulder of your auditory senses.

John Foxx – Underpass
Sparks – Beat the Clock

Spring Into Evil

The Vernal Equinox happened.  Lent came and went, or may possibly still be a grand torture for many as they deprive themselves of various vices in the name of Passover, or whatever it is meant to signify.  I’m not Catholic, and can’t be bothered to Google it at the moment.  The play list needs to be written, after all, and it’s currently almost midnight on Tuesday, which means I’m about to turn into a pumpkin.  One of these days I’ll learn to write these things up right after a gig so I can move on with other things.  But you know, procrastination happens.  As does Easter, Passover, April Fool’s, National Uncle Taketh Your Money Day, and many other Spring Time Events, thus Spring Into Evil.

Most of the Village parties tend to have a pretty broad theme, mostly because those of us running the parties want things to be easy and no fuss.  Honestly, it’s a good way to deal with the usual boring bouts of “Best in Black” or “Best in Whatever”.  Technically, it’s still a “Best in Whatever” theme, but it’s dressed up in a fancy name, and inflicted on all the unsuspecting souls who pass through the graveyard for a bit of dancing and debauchery.  As such, we had the usual plethora of faerie folk turn up, plus a shimmering bumble bee, a guy experiencing an extremely bad hair day, and some freaky mushroom thing with arms and legs.  Yours truly went dressed as a Gothic Mad Hatter, because that’s just how I roll.  It was teal, which seems to be a nice Spring color.

This set, as most of my sets are wont to do, started off innocuously enough with New Wave and Gothic fun, and ran the gamut of various genres.  Oddly, the songs really seemed to fit each other nicely, like Legos.  Not the mish mash my friends and I were saddled with as kids – you know, the ones that were just blocks, with an occasional wheel or triangular piece; but rather, it fit together nicely like the Lego version of a Star Wars Tie Fighter, complete with Lego R2D2 on the back.  Don’t ask me how it happens, but it is not for me to question why.  That said, revel in it.  Here’s the list:

Marc Riley with the Creepers – Gross
Diary of Dreams – Dogs of War
VNV Nation – Space and Time
Seabound – Watching Over You
X-Ray Spex – Genetic Engineering
Sigue Sigue Sputnik Electronic – I Don’t Wanna Live In Reality

It’s time yet again for a bunch of new play lists.  To be honest, there are times when I completely skive off writing these, and end up deleting the history in SAM Broadcaster.  This is such a time — the last two sets I did just got relegated to the aether, never to be heard from again.  It’s okay, there’s a lot more music where that came from, and the Village of Nyght is still kicking, though there are times it feels like it might be gasping its last.  It all depends on how financially stable the sim owner feels at any given moment, of course.  In any case, I figure it’s time to stop procrastinating long enough to give you a few more musical lists.  I’ve also linked the club name to the sim url, so if you ever get a hankerin’ for this brand of music, you need only click to go there.  One thing, though:  You’ll land in a sort of cave thing.  Take the Teleporter to “Party!!!”.  Any other choice will likely land you in the middle of shambling zombie hordes.

The regular party happens nearly every Saturday from 6pm till around 8pm.  It sometimes runs a bit late, and I usually start it a bit early.

I hope to get through the two hour plus set before my rice overflows all over the stove, so here goes:
